“Overpriced, over-rated, excessive hidden costs!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Possibly overpriced owing to Cannes proximity. For the overall price, you're better off renting a villa. Anyway, bienvenue a Pierre & Vacances. Here we go...

INCLUDED IN THE PRICE:
======================
Rude & surly front desk staff (welcome to France)
Make your own beds upon arrival
Strip your own beds upon check-out
Meagre playground (1 tiny seesaw, 2 playhouses) which is not floodlit
Large but unsupervised swimming pool
2 ping pong tables
Basketball court
Pétanque
River view
Themed shows nightly (shockingly amateur quality)
Bar closes at 11 p.m. sharp regardless of the number of clients present
Loud techno or themed music until midnight (the only 2 bedroom appartments are the closest to the noise)
800 m walk to crowded PUBLIC beach

NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE:
==========================
Guaranteed parking space EUR 40.-/week
Safe Key EUR 20.-/week (non refundable)
WiFi access EUR 10.- to 20.-/week
Air conditioning unit EUR 80.-/week (through 3rd party supplier)
Kids' activities EUR 20.-/session/child or EUR 150.-/child/all week
Breakfast EUR 11.-/meal
Uninspiring & meagre lunch/dinner buffet EUR 27.-/meal
Fresh mid-week towels EUR 9.-/set

On the whole quite a shocking low-end non-inclusive resort, run by the french who do not seem to pay attention to the small details;

The bar had no draft beer on the first night (Saturday), then no beer at all (Sunday), bar is restocked on Fridays only!
The waiters are in no hurry to restock the food buffet.
Changeover cleaning crew started at 5h45 a.m. on morning of departure, merci beaucoup!
It is best treated as rented accommodation, and to either eat out or do your own cooking (there is a giant supermarket within short driving distance).
It is a shame that although some staff are friendly, none have received any training in customer relations!
We have heard that Pierre & Vacances are in poor financial condition and that their resorts are being purchased one by one by a russian...

Adieu, Pierre & Vacances. Never again!

Nice vacation parc with quiet views on a canal (if your room is on the right spot). We had a 2-bedroom appartment with comfort service and breakfast. We stayed with 4 persons. The appartment had possibilities for up to 6 persons. None of the appartments have airco! The comfort service means that the beds are made and you get fresh towels at the half of the week. Unfortunately we had to remind the reception that we had paid for it and we didn't get the service when it was supposed to. The cleaning of the room is also done very basic. Breakfast is OK, but not super! Sometimes there is orange juice, sometimes there isn't. Sometimes there's bacon, sometimes there isn't... We think some of the workers ate everything before the tourists came to breakfast, because everything was set up to serve bacon, but the bacon was already gone, nontheless we were always one of the first to take breakfast. The take-away-pizzas are great. We didn't have lunch or diner in the restaurant. It's a pity there isn't a shop on the terrain to shop for some food and small purchases. The swimming pool is large enough for the amount of residents and you don't have to fight to get a seat (which is free) near the pool. Evenings can be sometimes noisy at the swimming pool or other main buildings due to evening-entertainment and parties. The location of the vacation parc is very good to explore the area. There's a parking on the terrain and you need codes to enter the parc grounds. Staff is very friendly.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet or romantic spot, ask for an appartment at the canal-side of the parc as far awa...

We rented a 2 bedroom flat for a week in May. The flat has a nice set-up and good enough space for 2 adults, one toddler and a baby. We were provided with a basic cleaning set. It would have been nice to have more bath towels/have them changed during the week but could do as it was.

Staff was friendly and helpful. My daughter of 3 loved the swimming pools (unsupervised). The restaurant La Riviera does very good pizzas that you can order as take away. We only had lunch once there but were slightly disappointed by the quality of the rest of the food that is quite expensive.

All in all very positive experience: good base to explore the area

The apartments are small, but you probably get what you pay for.

In theory it's great for kids. In reality, the kids are totally unsupervised in the swimming pool.

We had 2 bed 6 person residence for 2 adults and 2 children. It was pretty small. Beds were pretty uncomfortable. Kitchenette was equipped with minimum possible (no microwave or kettle, though did have dishwasher). Clean enough however and our expectations werent high so ok overall- typical French accomodation. Probably 2* accomodation but not a lot of choice in the area.

Many thanks for posting your review to Tripadvisor following your stay at the Cannes Mandelieu resort. We strive to ensure all of our accommodations are suitable for families visiting South of France. Whilst we ensure that our rooms and on-site facilities fit this brief, we have noted that this could be further improved with the presence of a lifeguard. This will certainly be taken into consideration when preparing our staff base for next summer. Our website lists full equipment lists for each of our kitchens, allowing customers to organise additional necessary items before arriving. In this instance, each of our rooms have a coffee maker, but we have less of a demand for kettles. I would like to apologise personally for any negative aspect of your stay and can assure you that we will be passing your comments onto Management of the residence for further consideration. Many thanks again for posting your review.

Shuttle to Cannes?...Supposedly...but it was whenever the driver was up to it. First and last time we counted on them, they never came to pick us up in Cannes...and we waited for about 2 hours, called them, there response was, take a taxi instead. We were given sheets and towels for 3 people even though we booked for 4. Were also only given one roll of toilet paper for the week. We asked several times for another, they said yes, but never delivered. Boat service? I think not! Just an empty little kiosk by the canal dock...I really wanted to rent one but no one was ever there the entire week! Wifi...not in our room as promised. But you could get it by the reception area.
The pros: clean, pretty and pretty grounds...

Thank you for posting your review. We are sorry to hear that our complimentary shuttle did not arrive at the specified times. We will look into this in time for next season. We strive to ensure that access to Cannes is as easy as possible for our guests and are keen to resolve this issue as soon as possible. I would also like to personally apologise for the error made when presenting you with your linen for the week. The dates of our in-season activities, including boat rental, are listed on our website. Wifi is available in our residence, but in our reception area. Individual internet connections are available on request. Many thanks for taking the time to post a review once more, we hope some consolation can be taken in the fact that Tripadvisor reviews are considered an important way to constantly review and improve our level of services at residences.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2008

We (partner and 21 month toddler) stayed here for a week in June 2008. The grounds were lovely with neatly landscaped, clean, well kept gardens. It is situated right beside a water inlet so there's boats and people fishing on the river.

As regards the apartment itself, this was very disappointing. We reserved a one bedroom apartment. It was basic to say the least with not so much as a kettle or a toaster (or even cups other than the tiny espresso coffee cups). Don't get me wrong, I wasn't searching for a home from home but for the money, I did expect a little more in terms of basics of the home. After all, that's why we chose self-catering. We thought we'd benefit in doing this as we have a toddler. The kitchenette area was tiny with a microwave oven shelved up on line with the wall cupboards so unless you're extremely tall, it was a struggle to put food in and worse, retrieve your hot food (especially when it stopped with your food at the far side of the turning plate - so you had to reach well in to get it out of the back of the microwave oven). There was no 'draining' area at the side of the sink so when we'd washed up, we had to let our things drain on the chipwood worktop so it was often swimming with water. The bathroom was tiny though adequate, and the toilet adequate (separate from the bathroom). We hunted for the bedroon - just as we were about to go to reception to say we'd been put in the wrong size apartment, we found the bedroom. We originally thought it was a cupboard door! The bedroom was tiny with a small basic double bed pushed up against the wall.

In the living area were some sealed newly laundered towels and bedsheets. It didn't feel like a holiday having to make up my own bed at mid-night after a long journey to get there. I was not impressed. Similarly, I laid out the new towels - of which there weren't sufficient for the three of us for the week. Towards the end of the week we were using wet towels that we hadn't managed to dry. We also had to go out and buy more toilet roll as, unless you pay extra, you don't get your apartment cleaned or any provisions replenished. On the first night, we had to go back to reception for a cot (at extra charge) for the toddler. A travel cot which I had to make up using the limited amount of bedding provided. On the upside, we'd been given a ground floor apartment which was good with having a toddler and the well kept garden area from our patio door was superb. All in all, the one thing I cannot criticise about the room - it was very clean.

There's one restaurant which is quite nice - eat inside or out. It served until around 10.00 pm. Limited food choice but it was handy for a couple of evenings. The bar was open at lunchtime and then closed until 6 o'clock. This was a bit of a bind when around the pool for the day unable to get any drinks/snacks.

The pool area was very clean (no shoes allowed) but the usual problem of not enough sun loungers and umbrellas especially (in the 115 degree heat). It was particularly overcrowded at the weekend when, I suppose, non-residents used the facilities.

You do really need a car to get the most of this area. The accommodation itself isn't situated close to bars/restaurants and the place itself is very quiet of an evening. It is however, literally a few minutes drive from Cannes and 10 minutes the opposite direction to a quaint little place called Theoule with three or four restaurants.

All in all the location is a good base for exploring the Cote d'Azur. The accommodation is very basic, but clean, and adequate if you don't go with any expectation of luxury or nightlife.

The Cote d'Azure is beautiful and well recommended for childless travellers who want to be as far away as possible from the Brits Abroad theme (associated with the majority of the other Med locations these days).

  • Liked — Lovely landscaped grounds
  • Disliked — basic accommodation to the extent of making up your own bed on arrival!

We stayed at Les Rives de Cannes in May 2003. The apartment (1 bedroom) appeared newly decorated, was nicely furnished and very clean. Small bathroom, but separate toilet. Lounge/kitchen diner with good selection of cookware and access to furnished balacony overlooking the river. Grounds and location excellent. Very good value for money. Staff at reception very friendly. Have recommended to others.
