First off, this isn't so much an hotel as it is a mislabeled B&B. The entire staff seems to be comprised of only one person, and she is only sporadically seen. This isn't bad per se, but it's not what you'd expect with an hotel, I'm not even talking about having a night manager on standby but just someone you can go to during the day with questions and/or requests.
I've given this a few weeks of thought to try an impartial attempt at describing our experience there.
- Location: there is a club right next door and many more bars in the neighbouring streets, good if you don't want to stroll far for a drink, but it makes ear plugs almost mandatory. What's worse is the endless high pitched engine sound of countless mopeds racing by at night, weekday and weekends.
- Service: the reception is actually never manned, and there doesn't seem to be anyone around. If you want [slightly overpriced] breakfast the next day you've to write it down somewhere in advance. Also after seeing someone and inquiring if we could have an extra pillow and blanket, it was not possible... (supposedly not available??!) Another point of critique has to be that one day there was only 1 towel left, normally not a problem but as you can't call housekeeping here it took us a few days before we managed to contact the "owner/manager/..." again to let her know... It also makes checking in/out painful, especially when pressed for time.
- Room: the large double room is ok size wise but lacks basic amenities; no toilet roll holder, any cupboard or closet for storage, (mini) fridge, lugage rack, tablet for toilet bag,... seriously inconvenient if you're staying for any duration of time. (The samal double room lacks airconditioning and is impossible to maneuver in, let alone store your lugage, never book this unless you're alone.)
The one thing this hotel has going for it is it's distinctive decorative style and ok hygiene (I can't say it's dirty, but it's not professionally cleaned either). In my opinion it would be more fair if it labeled itself as a B&B or boutique hotel, got rid of the small rooms entirely and furnished the large ones a bit better. That would certainly improve the quality overall, an appealing decorative style shouldn't be used to mask obvious shortcomings.
