“Family friendly, convenient, near the beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2008

I stayed in this hotel with my wife and two children (ages 6 and 2) for 4 nights in early July 2008. Our main goal was to have a short beach holiday. In this regard, the hotel selection was perfect as it is just 5-10 minutes walking (around 300 meters) from the beach (both to private and public beaches).
The hotel is impeccable, no frills but perfect for a beach vacation.
The rooms are large (we booked a superior room), the air conditioning worked perfectly as well. The room had a balcony that was part of the frontis of the hotel, which faces a quiet park. The large glass-windows-sliding doors that connect to the balcony have a very convenient and effective black-out curtain.
We paid for breakfast as it wasn't included inthe rate but it was definitely worth it.
If you go by car, you can either park around the hotel or you can park (for a fee) in the hotel undergroud garage. I used the later option and it was perfect, so you don't worry about time limits, parkimeter, etc.
Overall, very recommendable, we had a good experience.

  • Liked — Ample, fresh, clean room with no floor carpet (perfect for hotel close to the beach)

We stayed at this hotel in July 2007 with our nine year old daughter and our baby of 9 months.
This is a very good hotel - staff very friendly and the room we had was large with air conditioning and a very big balcony overlooking a lovely little park.
We would definitely recommend this hotel - it is in a very good location, close to restaurants and beaches.
Ideal for a family with children.
The breakfast was very good - we had breakfast in our room for one night and there was a mountain of food!
We would definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — It was very clean and in a great location.
  • Disliked — The dinner menu maybe could be improved a bit to cater for young children as well as adults.

My husband and I stayed at Les Strelitzias in Juan Les Pins during the first two weeks of September 2007. It was our first visit to the French Riviera and it was difficult to choose which resort to stay in never mind which hotel.
We were well pleased with both the resort and the hotel. The hotel was very clean and comfortable the staff were pleasant and helpful and the breakfasts were excellent. Breakfast on the lovely hotel patio was a great atmospheric start to the wonderful sunfilled days on the beautiful cote d'azur.
Juan les Pins, despite its reputation as a glitzy resort, is surprisingly down to earth and welcoming with its myriad of cafes and restaurants and fine sandy beaches. We found it much more affordable than we had expected with three course dinner menus available from 17 to 20 euros per person and the food and service was always of an impeccable standard. The local people we encountered were very gracious and patient in the face of our faltering French and went out of their way to be helpful and make us feel at ease.
The resort , with its excellent bus and train services made a great base for exploring the region. There were however too many places to go and things to see and we didn't manage to fit it all in this trip. However we have an excuse to come back to what must surely be one of the best holiday destinations possible.
Old Antibes was lovely as was Biot, Valbonne and Haute de Cagnes with their little streets so full of character. Cannes was spectacular with its designer stores and prices in Rue d'Antibes and the splendour of La Croisette with its palm lined promenade. The harbours of Antibes, Cannes, St Laurent du Var, Juan les Pins and Golfe Juan were crammed with the most amazing collection of boats imaginable.
However the most beautiful and impressionable aspect of the Riviera was the glory of the sea itself glistening in the sunshine.
A sight to behold - but don't take my word for it go see for yourself!

Taxi, booked by hotel, charged 50 euros, had been quoted 38.
Very friendly Receptionist. Room very large but no double bed, and took a while to get used to noise from traffic on road at side.
Also, no Refrigerator, so unable to even store own bottled water.
Very few coathangers, and even though we asked for more, they never arrived. Air-conditioning was not working, and neither were some of the lamps, but we were not too concerned about that. Our main problem was that as the hotel was full, the sockets stopped working when used with hair appliances, and you had to ring reception to get the sockets working again!! Laptop only worked outside or in reception, but everyone was looking over your shoulder, as there was no privacy where there was a connection! Had a problem with breakfast, as I like hard-boiled eggs, and most days they were available, but one day not there, and waitress told me to have scrambled, which I do not like. Eventually she found some, but did not like having to do this. Dinners were ok but we could have eaten better for the same price in many of the restaurants in Juan les Pins. We found the staff to be friendly, especially the Reception staff, and also the barman, but as it was September, the bar was hardly used, and we found it too quiet after dinner.

We will be going back to Juan les Pins, but not to the Hotel, it is ok for a 3 star, the rooms were clean, the shower excellent, but the hotel is a little lacking in atmosphere for our taste.

  • Liked — the shower, and the large terrace
  • Disliked — No refrigerator
  • Tips/Secrets — If your Sockets stop working, ring Reception, they can throw a switch, and get them back on!

Les Strelitzia appears to be a mixture of hotel and retirement home. We booked a large family room for the two us. The room was indeed large, with a large and very welcome balcony overlloking a park. Furnishing was spartan. There were no bedside carpets on the tiled floor. We had to request the replacement of shampoo, soap and toilet paper and usually had to make a trip to reception to collect what was needed. Gaining enrty and exit to and from the parking area at the rear of the hotel was a mission. The gate was usually closed and involved a walk aound the corner (there is no direct communication between the parking and the hotel) to request the opening of the gate. Daytime staff at reception were frequently unhelpful to the point of rudeness. The night staff however were a pleasure. The breakfasts were comprehensive and good value. We did not sample the restaurant but the food looked good and was well presented. The hotel is well situated for the main beaches and represented good value for the price but we would prefer not to book this hotel for our next visit.

We stayed in Les Strelitzias for two weeks late May - early June with our daughter of 9 months. We enjoyed our stay a lot. Friendly staff, nice custom-made cocktails in the bar and good food in the restaurant, both breakfast and dinner. Half of our time we had dinner in the hotel and the other half in one of the restaurants in Juan-les-Pins (5-10 minutes walking) or surroundings. It is also conveniently located to the beach (5 oinutes walking).

The major construction work was finalized when we stayed there, which has resulted in a nice terrace outside the hotel. Only minor finalization activities were going on, but this did non cause any inconvenience to us at all.

The size and cleaniness of our room was absolutely fine with enough space for the baby cot as well which was provided by the hotel.

Referring to the other reviews, indeed I can imagine it is not convenient for people with wheelchairs due to the small elevator and I also would not recommend it to honeymooners since the majority of the hotel guests tends to be at least 50+ (including regular travel groups from the UK). Since we were looking for a quiet hotel anyway with our little daughter this was absolutely fine. On the contrary, some of the other guests and most of the personnel showed a genuine interest in the well being of our daughter, fortunately without giving all kinds of well meant advice.

I can absolutely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a friendly, quiet hotel convenient to beach and restaurants, but I wouldn't stay here if you are looking for a lot of late night action in your hotel.

We stayed here June 19 to 23 in a "chambre familiale". When you enter your room, there is a foyer with six doors: the entry door, door to the main room, two doors to two closets, door to the bath and door to the WC. There is nothing in the foyer. The room was defintiely large with plenty of room for luggage, etc. There was also a very large balcony. It was definitely larger than our next 4 star hotel in Italy.

No construction was going on when we were there and we were able to sleep with the sliding door to the balcony open. All the personnel at the hotel seemed friendly, regardless of whether you spoke French or not. In general, I would recommend this hotel and Juan les pins. By the way, there were very few Americans here. The hotel had quite a lot of old people staying there, so it was quiet.

Juan les pins is a happening place with a lot of bars, restaurants and cute stores. You pay about 10-16 euros to rent a beach chair with mattress and umbrella. The beach is about 5 minutes from the hotel and downtown is about 5-10 minutes from the hotel. The hotel is in a more residential neighborhood. On one evening, there was a festival de musique, and I haven't seen so many people on the street since the Atlanta Olympics.

Only slight cautionary tale: I was taken advantage of at the Cuban bar at the southwest corner of the main park. With our first drink, the male server left the drink "ticket/tab" on the table (standard practice). But the second blonde waitress upon bringing our next round of drinks demanded immediate payment of both tabs. This is the only time that somebody asked for immediate payment. This did seem odd at the time but I went along with it. I gave her a 50 euro note for a total bill of 25 euros. She left with the money and the two tickets, but without (and this is the key) the round dish (don't know what it's called) that they put the ticket under. So when I later asked for my change, she pointed at the empty round dish and said that she had returned the change in the round dish. So the moral of the story is: make sure that the waitress leaves with the round dish. (although usually the servers carry change on them)
