“Nice place to stay in Juan les Pins”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

AC Ambassadeur is a nice place to stay, it is pretty much what you would expect from a Marriott hotel in Europe. It has a corporate feel to it, rooms are small but comfortable, a must is a pool view as there is a building site on the other side of hotel and would imagine noisy and not a great view. As a Platinum card holder breakfast and wifi is free which is good, but if you are expecting a executive lounge they don't have one. Outdoor pool area was pleasant with a non heated pool and a decent bar menu although soft drinks are on the pricey side €5 for a coke is a bit steep when it's the same price as the beer/wine. There is a private beach but you have to pay, that's just how it seems to be in the area so be prepared to pay €19 per person and then bar food is pricey along with drinks but to be expected in this area. On the whole no complaints and would recommend if you want a place to stay where you don't have to speak any French.

Room Tip: Pool view is a quieter room

Checked in & room AC was not working. They tried to fix it for 3 hrs by then wanted another room. The desk clerk was ready to oblige but then the manager shows up and rudely tells us that they are full (lie- as I checked online and they were not full). At another time another desk manager lies that there are no public beach in JLP. Saw another OP complain about the bar but over experience was opposite. The bartender was the nicest person we met at the hotel.
Best thing they or Marriott could do is fire the rude manager.

With that we loved JLP for what it is, good location. nice night life

Arrived home yesterday and felt the need to write a review as some of the comments here seem very harsh to me. There were some negatives but overall the hotel is lovely. I shall start with the negatives:

1. Wifi limited to 1 hour complimentary and only available to log on in lobby
2. Sunbeds are charged at 15 Euros per day
3. Pool was not cleaned regularly

Now to the positives:

1. We traveled with a baby and they bent over backwards to assist us (given early check in and late check out, a cot and kettle also supplied)
2. Air Con was great
3. Rooms were lovely and clean, as were the bathrooms
4. All staff very friendly
5. When we complained about the state of the pool we were given our sunbeds for free for entire holiday

The hotel is close to shops, restaurants, bars and only a short walk (25mins) to Antibes

As for the construction site, I did not hear one thing from them from my room

Would without doubt stay again

When i arrived to the hotel my reservation done two months in advance did not appear in their system, but i had the print out of the reservation, i am a marriott rewards member, there was not supervisor to talk and the receptionist did not know what to do. The service at the bar was terrible after ordering few drinks it took more than 20 minutes to bring the drinks, the sunbeds at the pool where booked and the were not available any more. The service at the private beach even at extra charge 19 euros each one was really bad. Internet was not fully working. i called the reception for a sewing kit and an iron and it was never delivered. Terrible stay i will never go to that hotel again.

I'll get right to the point -- the main problem with this hotel is that there's not enough air conditioning. The rooms are well air conditioned, but the halls are not, and the restaurants could use some extra air, too.
Bathroom is small but clean. The first time I used the shower, I flooded the floor because it has one of those European 1/2 door and water sprayed all over the place.
Having said all that, the staff is great, the food is wonderful (very, very good room service) and the location is very good -- within walking distance of dozens of shops, restaurants and of course, the beach.
Note that a convention center is being built right across the street, so ask for a room away from the construction.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the construction.

When I was staying in this hotel, it was just a few month before the conversion to AC Hotel. The rooms was ok, I especially liked the terrace. Some guest areas like the glass elevator and the meeting rooms have shown some serious signs of wear and the rates in the restaurant were close to extortion (65 EUR for 2 cokes and 4 omelettes, after waiting 45 minutes for it) One place I would like to highlight. The bar and the pool in the back of the hotel are a great place to relax and have lunch... Room Service was fine, food a mixture of French and International cuisine. Breakfast was below average in terms of choice and quality...all in all an ok stay, but wait until refurbished...

I stayed here with 4 of my girlfriends in late August 2011 - and it was a really nice experience!

We had 2 pool view rooms on the 6th floor, 1 room for 1 week and 1 for 4 nights. Amanda at booking was really helpful with making sure we got the kind of rooms we preferred (floor, beds, rooms close to each other), and with information etc.

The rooms were very nicely renovated and with beautiful, modern decor. Comfortable beds, nice balconys, nice bathrooms. Housekeeping was good, rooms were always well cleaned.

We did not have any meals at the hotel so I cannot comment on breakfast/restaurants, but the staff at the bar were very service minded - we could borrow ice buckets for the rosé wine we enjoyed at our balcony, buy snacks to take to the rooms etc.

We also really liked the private beach club - the staff there took really good care of us all day and were very attentive. We had lunch there once (good!) and drinks/coffee every day.

The hotel is well situated, only a few minutes' walk from the "main street" with pubs, bars and shopping. And 1-2 more minutes to the beach. We found nice places to have breakfast on the way from the hotel to the beach.

We never stayed by the pool, but the area looked really beautiful from our balcony - which was a great place to enjoy drinks in the afternoon sun before going out in the evenings!

The only negative: One or two of the reception staff were maybe not the friendliest, but others were really nice, so no biggie.

I should mention that when we were there, they had just started a major building project on the "city view" side of the hotel. It was a year ago, so they may have finished that - but if not, then it is probably worth it to pay a little extra to be on the pool view side of the building.

We liked Juan les Pins - and the hotel - so much that we are actually going back in 2,5 weeks, for this year's girls' holiday!

Room Tip: If they are still building next door (they were starting summer 2011), then probably worth it to get...
