“Good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

Good Points: Great location, large rooms, amazing views, friendly reception staff, underground parking and a place to leave your ski's.

To improve: The Spa area - we went in for free but if you have to pay don't, it's really not worth it. The bar - the guy opens when he wants and he is not exactly pleased to serve you.

Overall: For the price and all of the good points mentioned I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a large room with valley view and for the parking - worth it.

Accommodation: Self catering apartment, C2A LES TERRASSES D'ISOLA

A warm and helpful welcome at reception at all times and very flexible even though the limited opening hours clearly put them under great demand from demanding customers.
We were delighted with the standard and cleanliness of the accommodation, clearly recently completely re-furbished including a fully equipped modern kitchen, WC, bathroom and shower. With loads of storage for clothes and bags in the entry hall, the sleeping and living area remained uncluttered including a sunny balcony with views over the mountain proved great for a beer at the end of the day. Accommodation also included a Locker room for ski’s.
Walking to the piste was not a problem: turn left to resort central which would be about 10 minutes in ski boots, but the Sierra run is probably less than 50 yards to the right of the hotel – which we used to ski out and in from each day.
Wifi unfortunately only in reception area.

Ski Isola 2000:
Great for beginners and those supervising as the resort is built around the nursery slopes. Because there are many blue and green runs, novice skiers soon gain access to the stunning scenery around the resort. We would consider ourselves “respectably” competent skiers and had thoroughly explored all runs enjoying the Italian border point and the distant view of the Mediterranean and some very perfect ski conditions during our stay.

Travel to Isola 2000:
Arrived Nice and used an amazing transfer by bus to Isola at 5 euro each. Book ahead and check the timetables on line for the 100% Snow / 750 Isola 2000 route. However we bought tickets upon arrival as pre-booking afternoon trips on line was not possible (worth considering when booking your flight as taxi is a high cost option).

Eating In:
Well stocked food shopping facilities – but annoyingly we forgot to take our own things like salt and pepper which are wasteful purchases when abroad.

Eating Out:
We can only report on one Restaurant La Raclette (near the Cinema). We were very lucky to get a table three times, enjoyed great service and recommend the Fondue and Raclette as well as good Italian dishes.

A special thanks to Pascal LEQUENNE and Stella Cali stella.cali@residences-hotels-c2a.fr for being so very helpful.

Room Tip: 7th floor block B was great with balcony view to front of building.

Stayed here this year and booked again for next year. Great location in the middle of the nursey slope and easy access to the shops.

The room (duplex for 8-10 people) was clean, modern, nice bathrooms, decent kitchen reasonable well stocked for self catering. the lounge area was non-existant with a 2 seater sofa, which doubled up as the nineth and tenth beds, but nice dining area with table and proper chairs.. We were a party of six and this was ideal space for us.

The apartments are small, so always book the extra size. If you are 4 people, book for 6-7. Then you will really enjoy the accomodation. The spa is only open from 4pm-7pm and is not all that really - very cold swimming pool and the bars are not great. But for self catering, you can't go wrong.

Room Tip: Top tip - book larger rooms and book early to get very good deals.

The staff are this place's best asset. Flexible, friendly and solved minor problems quickly. We stay in a Grand Apartment which whilst relatively new had not been finished well. Floor boards and skirting not fitted correctly. Yes reception is only open 4 hours in the afternoon early evening but there were no queues. We went out of season in late March and the hotel was empty. We found the kitchen well equiped for our short stay. Nice view from the apartment. Heating good and endless hot water.

really friendly service and helpful staff at les terrasses d'isola. overall we enjoyed our stay due to the fantastic staff but there are endless problems with the accommodation itself!

all the locks are dodgy (if there was a fire during the night you'd struggle to get out the apartment in a hurry!)
there is no doormat to wipe your dirty ski boots, no bath mat, and no hoover to clean the apartment at the end.
the kettle in our room was rusty on the inside.
towels are not provided in the spa, so your bath towel ends up very wet!
the changing room doors don't lock in the spa
be careful not to get 3rd degree burns in the spa showers!
the reception is only open for about 4 hours a day, so the queue upon check-in is hellish!
the spa is a bit of a waste of time because it is also only open about 4 hours a day
the wi-fi only works in reception
the pillows are very uncomfortable
the ski lockers are not big enough for 4 people's skis and boots
there are never enough lockers in the spa for the amount of guests

however, the sofa bed is really comfortable. its a great place for a short stay, but just not as luxurious as it seems from the outset!

Room Tip: the 4 person room is a bit cosy for 4 people - fine for a weekend but no longer

Isola 2000 is a lovely is small resort. It has enough restaurants and bars, a small icerink, two small supermarkets and a number of excellent patisseries! Night skiing/fireworks and other evening entertainment was laid on but this may have been due to nthe fact that it was half term in France and this resort is 99% French, which we loved.

The pistes number around 40 i think, with easy reds and blues being the mainstay. It was recommended to us as a place that is always sunny and unbelievably 5 of our 6 days were blue skies most of the day.

The appartments were pretty basic, although exceptionally clean. Only a small hob and microwave. No grill, oven, toaster or kettle provided, although there was a coffee machine for those that drink coffee which we don't. The other slight irritations were the mugs/cups provided were espresso sized, not nearly big enough for a hot drink and the cocrete build of the Appartments meant that it was quite noisy from people walking around in skiboots above, next door and in the corridors outside. Alot of the French did get up at 6.30am and often came in around 2 in the morning which woke us regularly. It was the busiest toime of the year so try and miss Feb half term if you can.

Ask for a room on the 6th or 7th floor near to the Reception, as trudging upstairs to collect the mornings delicious fresh bread and pain au chocs or carrying ski equiment from the 3rd floor did become wearing. The hotel itself has spectacular views of the mountains and sits about 50m above the village where the lift, shops and bars are. You have 2 choices in the morning to get to the slopes, either a bundle into a small funicular which was quite slow or via a bus shuttle which ran every 10 mins.
It was another 50m walk from the funicular/bus stop to the slopes, so those who find
lugging their skis around morning and evening a pain, hire a locker from the ski shop in the roofed shopping area for your stay.
We found the best slopes were over on far right when looking at the piste map and the little restauarant over there run by George makes the best food ever including BBQ on the days that the sun shines. It also has a cute but unfriendly pet donkey!
Overall a nice break. Reception could do with informing their new clients about whats available in the resort along with the basics of how things work there...we muddled through though..trial and error.
One last hint- check out what time the ski bus leaves Nice for Isola BEFORE booking your flights, as, if you can time it right it is possible to get to resort for a EURO per person each way but they only run once a day...a great bargain though for a ride that's about an hour and a half. Car hire is min EUR180 for the week and taxis are extortionate EUR 400 so beware!
