Owner description: Created in 1989, this one-of-a-kind museum is situated in the symbolic City of Grasse, the cradle of the luxury perfume trade which began in France. Dedicated to one of the most prestigious traditional French businesses, the International Perfume Museum, a public institution awarded by the <> label, is devoted to safeguarding and promoting the international heritage of scents, aromas and perfumes. Museum visitors will also discover the unique history of the great perfume Houses and producers. Bearing witness to the international technical, aesthetic, social and cultural history of the tradition of using scents, the museum covers every aspect of the history of fragrance through an anthropological approach including raw materials, manufacture, industry, innovation, business, design, and customs -through very diverse forms- decorative arts, textiles, archaeological finds and unique industrial items

“Perfume without the Purchase”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

Grasse is a very nice town to explore especially if you are with ladies who like their scents. This is the best of the perfume museums as it does not decant you into a vast perfumery at the end of the visit where temptation might win out (although it must be said that those who do do their job very well). This is a very good, well laid out museum is a beautiful building right in the centre of town. It tells the story of perfume very well in multiples languages and had a nice relaxed air - no need to ransom all your worldly goods to get an audio commentary. Recommended and good value. €5 for adults and free for Under 18s.
