“A must-do day trip from Nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

This was definitely one of the best day trips! It's easy to catch the bus to Eze village where you hike down the Nietzsche Path to Eze-Sur-Mer and catch the bus or train back to Nice. Once in Eze village you can ponder around the 'chateau' (which is really a hotel) and ascend up to the very top of the mountain for spectacular views of the cote d'azur (see photo). Make sure you pay the small fee to get into the jardin exotique d'eze which hosts cacti and little plants before revealing the entire coast in beautiful sunlight. Once you've taken it all in, head down the Nietzsche Path; a rocky path for hikers only. Make sure you wear ankle supporting shoes. It'll take you just over an hour to reach the bottom with splendid views en route. Once at the bottom, cross over and visit the beach at Eze-Sur-Mer (Eze on the sea) before taking bus 100 or the train back to Nice. Overall it takes a good 3-4hours, best done with friends or family, but equally satisfying solo!

“Such a fun climb! A must!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

This hike is a must if you're staying anywhere in the Nice area. The Nietzsche Path is the best way to get to old Eze village from the train station located down by the coast. (The train from Gare SNCF in Nice to the stop Eze-sur-Mer is only about 14 min and 2.60 Euro one way.) I visited in mid-March and even then the views from the trail were amazing. The path winds through large gorges and takes about 1h10min to climb. While it is quite a workout, it is not so challenging that the majority of people can't enjoy it. Good shoes (which you don't mind beating up a little) are highly recommended. The path is well marked and provides a very peaceful climb. By the time you visit Eze and climb back down, you will be worn out, so I don't recommend planing anything else for this day. This hike itself has probably been my favorite thing I have done since visiting Nice and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

“Best approach to Eze”

A great walk up a lovely gorge. It's a Very well marked and surprisingly remote and tranquil path. Good views, especially on the way down ( which I found harder than the walk up)

“It's all about the view...”

... and walking off all the food and wine one consumes in france. We caught the 83 bus up the hill (and agree with previous reviews that was a little scary). Decided to walk down the trail. We weren't wearing ideal shoes but managed. It is quite steep and a little tricky in places for those of us not good with heights. Taking our time and taking lots of photos it took us just over an hour. On a nice day would highly recommend especially towards the end of the day as sun sets.
