After a couple of disappointing experiences at Pause Café (see separate review), which I used to love, I checked out TripAdvisor and read very good things about La Meissouniere. Despite being on my own, I was offered a table on the (small) terrace, as long as I came by 13.45, which I duly did. The waiter and waitresses were all extremely helpful and cheerful.
The lunchtime menu for €15 for main course and dessert is great. There are some supplements but they are not huge. I had the fish of the day, a huge portion of perfectly cooked salmon with rice, a carrot puree and a very pretty (and delicious) salad of thinly sliced vegetables with sesame seed and good olive oil. The food is fresh and well presented. A quarter of more than drinkable rose is €4.50. Everyone seemed to be raving about the desserts so I chose the 'assiette gourmande', small (they were in fact pretty big!) portions of crème brulee (delightful), chocolate mousse (light and airy) and tiramisu (as good as my mother's and that's saying something). With a coffee (and home-made financier), the bill came to €21.70 which, in a town which is always expensive, is quite reasonable. No wonder it was full to bursting.
I'll definitely go back and I've now voted La Meissouniere my new favourite restaurant in Cannes - let's see if they deserve my vote.
