“Good but it's an old building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

I stayed there mid-August for a week with my wife and 3 children .
I know the area very well having spent most of my summers there since i was a child . I was glad to see it is now run by Grand Hyatt as i value the chain tremendously .
The really disappointing part was the facility itself . It is in desperate need of a spruce up . The rooms are generally adequate, nothing fancy but comfortable , but the bathrooms are borderline appalling . I found it unacceptable for Euro 1000/night per room .
The service is generally good but still in a "French" kind of way but they were clearly understaffed and having a hard time to cope with the peak season full house .
Proximity to the beach is excellent but the staff leaves a lot to be desired . You will face the typical French attitude who try to teach everyone manners which honestly the lady giving out towels didn't have any .
Hotel location is great , smack on the Croisette surrounded by cafes , restaurants and shopping .
Everything is extremely expensive as is the case in the area in summer but the hotel laundry exceeds anyone's expectations . Euro 14 for a T-shirt is really really high so for those who decide to stay there there's a laundromat not even 200m from the hotel which does your laundry and pressing (if you don't want to do it yourself) for practically pennies in comparison.
i cant tell about the restaurants except for breakfast which was very good but limited in the variety . otherwise we were mostly eating out .
would i stay there again ? frankly the real deterrent is the outdated facility . They can really turn this into a fantastic facility for very little investment but i doubt they would that . Judging from the huge number of Saudi royalties staying there i don't see what would be their incentive to change anything .

Room Tip: our rooms were on the 2nd overlooking a side street where it's lined up with very loud restauran...

Dear sir,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to leave a review and are extremely pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the Hotel Martinez.

Regarding your question relating to renovations at the property, I can confirm that from winter 2013 the hotel will undergo a full and extensive renovation phased over three winter seasons and be fully refurbished within end 2016.
Prior to this full renovation the hotel has already undertaken a soft renovation relating to the replacement of furniture, curtains and carpeting throughout the parts of the hotel.

We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hotel Martinez.

With all our very best regards.

I have stayed both in 2006 and 2007.
In 2006, we stayed when there was a fireworks right in front of the hotel and that was still the biggest and closest fireworks I have seen (even though I am from Tokyo where everybody is quite fanatic about fireworks). The room, both times, had been a quite small room but clean room facing garden side. If they had a bigger room with the better view, my experience must have been quite different. The concierge at this hotel is very friendly and had helped us a lot in looking for the restaurant and other facilities. The private beach and deck of the hotel is beautiful as well. They have a good taste in fixing their beachfront areas all matched with cream colored beige towels and umbrellas. The beach restaurant has a good food as well. The restaurant Le palme d'or is still one of my favorite restaurant for its atmosphere and food. You can get the terrace seat which is great. The services are fantastic and you could never have a bad experience at this restaurant.
The breakfast are served right next to the pool area and has a good food as well. Every time we visited were at a high season at the end of Aug so we saw a lot of children at breakfast time but was not too bad.

Location is Great. Some rooms are old fashioned, some are great. Breakfast was every morning an experience, waiting time for a cup of coffee was more than 30 minutes.

The beach area is great, even customers have to pay for a beach bed.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are very expensive and hill side is garden view. The hotel is good but the service is...

I have stayed in this hotel 7 days in August. My experience was far below my expectations. This hotel is not worth the pay. The rooms were outdated and need to be refurbished. The internet connection is very slow, wireless signal almost not available in our room and other family members' rooms. Very noisy especially during night times when the music from the restaurant at the street level goes up. The crib I have requested for my one-year son was very old and missing some rails, dangerous if baby left without surveillance. The service at the "relais" restaurant which is located next to the lobby and serves both breakfast and dinner was bad. Some waiters were rude and dull. Positive points: good service at check-in and room service, and well located hotel.

This hotel is amazing and will really blow you away. From the moment you set foot inside the hotel you every need is catered for in 5 star luxury. It ticks all the boxes for a very luxurious (though expensive) family holiday.

My family had 3 rooms, booked through BA. All were good condition and clean. Inclusive breakfast, either in the hotel or at the beach restaurant, was excellent. One small criticism-the buffet area was a bit squashed (maybe Hyatt will redesign, given large overall ground-floor area).
We used the pool but were reluctant to pay for (!) loungers. Kids' club was very good.

I have read other reviews so i know that the hotel claim that they are entering a three year refurbishment program starting this winter. THANK GOODNESS.

Nevertheless in the meantime thousands of guests will still arrive at the hotel and be subject to its problems.

The good - the position and the staff.
The bad - the very tired rooms (IKEA wardrobes with no long hanging, no drawers for storage, switch cover hanging off of the wall, broken shower door replaced by crude curtain, an air-con vent blackened with dirt and so on). The prices - euro 40 for a continental breakfast! Totally disorganized breakfast on the beach.
The Ugly - the WiFi (sit in the corridor and it works. Sit in your room and it doesn't. But one still has to log in every time you use it). The noise due to ancient double glazing. Smell of smoking as if some guests just ignore the rules.

I made some of my comments to reception as i left. I was asked to complete a feedback form on Hyatt's website. If you look at it they are clearly not really interested hence this review.

Close the hotel; Hyatt, refurbish and bring it back to it's glory days.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view room. Those over the road on the west side are noisy as anything.
