“A Perfect Gem...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2008

Our family of 3 just returned from a 5 week European vacation. We had the opportunity to stay for 5 nights at Hotel America in Cannes. Along our travels Hotel America stood out as a GEM of a hotel with it's amenities, location and staff. Our room was a spacious, true triple room with a King size bed and a double pullout sofa bed. It is important to point out that the beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were very quiet. It appeared that the hotel has recently been renovated and our room was tastefully decorated. We were 100 meters from the beach as the hotel is situated between the seafront and the Rue D'Antibes, Cannes' main shopping street, and 200 meters from the train station It couldn't be anymore perfect. Everything worked: the television, air conditioning, WiFi and Fridge. As great as the hotel was, what made Hotel America stand out were the staff and owner. Galien, the owner of the hotel is a young entrepreneur that understands customer satisfaction and politeness. He and the entire staff go out of their way to assist you in all matters of your stay... Your problem is their problem. We never experienced such incredible service before. All the staff speak English and Galien can be seen wandering the Hotel looking for anything that needs attention or serving you a free espresso. The morning breakfast was standard fare with meats, cereals and fruit salad. Finally, the location is in the heart of fine dining district with many fabulous restaurants all within a 5 minute walk... I would strongly recommend this hotel to my family and friends... Enjoy your stay at Hotel America

PS: Try La Petite Paris for a fabulous dinner...

I stayed at the Hotel America on my own while on a business trip and I had a good experience that was marred by some small problems. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was excellent - tucked right between the seafront and the Rue D'Antibes, Cannes' main shopping street, and near the train station, it couldn't have been better.

The room was very small and would have been a tight fit for a couple but that's always the trade-off with location. The room was clean and had a (noisy) air-con unit, but I slept with the window open one night and if the weather had been cooler (it was 35 degreesC) it would have been quiet enough to switch the aircon off.

The less-good: my door key stopped working twice and it was very tedious to go back down from the 4th floor to get it fixed; the wireless internet was patchy and mine was cancelled on one occasion despite it being extra; the television didn't work but I didn't really mind as I was out a lot; the decor is a little dated as reflects the class of the hotel I suppose; the breakfast was standard, with orange juice from a carton and sugary cereals and not really worth the extra 15 Euros.

These small problems are just to illustrate what to expect and didn't really add up to a bad experience. I would recommend this hotel to business travellers as it is very convenient but it's not luxurious or romantic.

Myself and my husband stayed in this hotel for 3 nights at the start of June 2008. this really is the perfect place to stay and I cannot imagine you would get a better reception in any of the more upmarket hotels on the sea front. The hotel is only a block back from the seafront and it takes about 3 minutes to get to the beach from the front door of the hotel. the staff were so nice and helpful and thats what made it for us, as well as the rooms, while maybe not huge, they were so clean and comfortable. The night porter, i think his name was Daniel, was lovely and he suggested lots of things for us to do while in Cannes. the old town is really worth a visit and the hotel is the right end of Cannes for this - you can walk there from the hotel in about 10 minutes.

I stayed at this hotel for nearly a week with my small daughter.
Staff in this hotel was so warm and welcoming to us, it was excellent. Location could not be better for little feet to get anywhere we needed.
Room was kept super clean, everything was just perfect.
We travel a lot and are fussy :), this hotel will be on our 'must-come-back' list.

A delightful hotel in a fantastic setting, literally a two-minute walk from the beach and, in the other direction, a two-minute walk to the main shopping street. The location couldn't be better. This would be excellent if you were planning on going to the Cannes Film Festival. There are also many restaurants nearby.

Our room was spacious and kept very clean, as was the en suite. The room was quiet and we didn't hear any 'street noise'. Breakfast was lovely, a typical continental buffet. The fresh pastries were delicious.

The staff are more than happy to help and the receptionists are very friendly and welcoming. They are also incredibly good at speaking English! The receptionists are more than willing to offer advice on tourist attractions or good restaurants, which was very useful. They also helped arrange our transport to the airport.

A very pleasant stay. I would definately return.

I travelled to Cannes on business for an event at the Palais (around the corner). This location is very good for access to the Palais (2 blocks away), the beach (it was too cold in Feb to go there), and restaurants/old town.

The rooms were clean, well appointed, fine for two adults with ample closet space. Bathroom was ultra clean, seemed rather new, well appointed. Rooms had everything I needed and I would return for a vacation.

The price for my room (104 Euro's per night) was the best of anyone I spoke to at the event. Internet was fast and cost 15 euros for the week. A euro-breakfast was included (meaning croissant, coffee, etc.).

The people at the front desk were nothing short of 'formidable'. Their english was perfect (which was good for me) and, when I asked them for help with restaurants for business, they emailed me lists and booked it for me before I even arrived.

This is a good place to stay. If you want something fancy or large rooms, then the room I had would not be good for you. But how much time do you spend in your room when in the Cote D'Azur.

For restaurants - check out the old town. I recommend 'Le Relais des Semailles' and anything on St. Anne street. Enjoy. Also it's good to check out the Tower and the museum in the old town - the views are something to see - it's a good idea to remember your camera.

  • Liked — the price, the location, and the people at the front desk
  • Disliked — It's a euro hotel where you get a small-ish room with the basic necessities

This little hotel is a great find in the expensive & glamorous city of Cannes. I go to Cannes 3 times a year on business and need to stay close to the Palais where the events take place. I tried apartments and hotels. It's impossible to get a 5 star hotel next to the Palais and I am not willing to walk from the Martinez where I used to stay. I was lucky enough to find this little gem behind the Majestic Hotel. It is small , simple but very clean and more importantly than that very friendly. The staff is wonderful greeting you every day by your name and attending to your needs. The breakfast is also a great touch. No need to go out and look for a place. They have very nice amenities which includes slippers. I highly recommend for anyone who wants a great location while visiting Cannes.
