“Rude welcome from the hostess, but tasty food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

This restaurant, or bistro as it positions itself, is nicely situated across the road from the seafront and verey close to the Ecole de Voile. The building is charming and there are tables on a terrace where you get a view of the sea if you crane your neck a little. Whilst we really did enjoy the food, the service was lacking, not mind you because of lack of skills but simply because there were not enough staff on duty and they had to race from table to table. In addition, the hostess (owner it appeared) was downright rude and off-hand. It was not ideal for children under ten because there was nothing on the menu which was really appropriate, although our waiter did manage to negotiate a nicely presented plate of boiled potatoes for our seven year old which worked out fine. I'd return without the kids, possibly for a lunch and hope that the hostess was taking her siesta at that moment!

“Manage your expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

Despite the staff being rude, the tables too close to one another (smokers!), and having to wait for more than 20 minutes before our order was taken after we got menus (the main hostess was "busy" - what with? - so a waitress took it), having to wait 30 minutes before bread came to our table, despite all that, ... The food is fresh, well prepared, and very tasty and Michelin quality. Short but good wine list. Excellent value for money menu. So, read some other reviews, and take your chance...

“One Michelin star?!??”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

To anyone who thinks one cannot eat badly in France, especially in a restaurant etoile (one Michelin star), this little pretentious place may come as a shock. The menu explains that it is not a restaurant but a bistro: this the paper napkins. Prices are certainly restaurant ones, with a lunch menu of 25 Euros for two courses. We booked for six, found the service surly and graceless, and the food ranged from good (gaspacho, terrine of seafood) through mediocre (thin slices of anchovy in oil) to downright inedible. The inedible included a slab of cod on white beans whose saltiness took the roof my mouth off, and a concoction of seafood in white sauce that tasted simply vile. The fish had been so overcooked that it had turned to mash. Two of my guests could not get more than a couple of mouthfuls into this dish. The restaurant, sorry bistrot, sits alongside many others. Each of these was cheaper, looked friendlier and would have been a better experience. You have been warned!

“Simply fanstastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

It's a bistrot and there's no fanfare, frippery or faffing. However, the kitchen knows its stuff, it really does. While kitchens all around are losing their skills or debasing themselves this is a beacon of hope that it is still possible to eat good quality without feeling the need to whisper and behave like an honoured guest. My advice is go even if you've never heard of Cagnes (we hadn't).

“Attractive Michelin Star Bistro Of Variable Quality.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2011

We have been 4 or 5 times for lunch. The restaurant has an attractive terrace, the room is also attractive. Food has always been good for a bistro, but expensive. The atmosphere is pleasant, but service can be slow, and not always agreeable.
