“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

We stayed here for a week in the middle of June and I must say we were positively surprised. We are quite high-maintance when it comes to hotels and staying at a "only" three-star hotel was a bit scary. It need not be extremely luxorious however it must be clean.

We had two double rooms, each equipped with a lovely balcony overlooking a garden with lemon trees and orange blossoms. The rooms were cleaned and the beds made each day. Our room in itself was also very nice, in the colour of lavender and light blue (however the second room was in burgundy - not as pretty), the beds comfortable and the bathroom clean (towels etc. were changed each day as well).

We also had the hotel breakfast each day which was very nice considering it was in France (where they generally don't have such good breakfasts...) with fresh fruit, yoghurt and cornflakes/müsli, juice, coffee, tea, different types of cheese and cold meat, croissants and bread. You sat outside eating, overlooking the gardens and the pool - lovely! The only thing which we found a bit odd and not to good about breakfast was that the bread they served was either toast or those "store-bought" mini-baguettes. How can they not buy fresh baguettes each day with a boulangerie just around the corner with wonderful bread?! We are in France - where the baguettes are cheap and delicious.

The hotel was also equipped with a pool which was extremely nice during the warm days. There were also towels and sunbeds.

The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and service-minded. Big plus! The location too was nice, not far from Cannes, Antibes, St-paul-de-Vence, Mougins... and 5 minutes walking distance from Biot's town square where the restaurants were situated (however it was a quite steep uphill climb.. but easier on the way back!)

Overall the hotel Domaine du Jas was and exceptional hotel, extremely cheap considering what we got... The one thing which might drag down it's grade might be however that you could not sit down by the pool, where you hade breakfast in the morning, and order something to drink and something small to snack on. But that was a minor problem and I truly recommend this wonderful, wonderful hotel!

It was my first visit to Biot and after reading several reviews I decided to choose the Domaine du Jas. I don't always make great choices but in this case I made a good decision. The hotel is pretty, clean, and a short walk away from the old village of Biot. The room I had overlooked the pool and was comfortable and clean. The decor is not what I would have chosen for my own home, but it was fine. This hotel is not an old historic inn that you could find at other places in France so the rooms may lack a bit of charm but for sleeping and relaxing on the balcony after a day of sightseeing they are fine. The breakfast served by the pool was very nice and had a good variety. The staff in the hotel were all very kind and helpful and were eager to answer questions and recommend restaurants and things to do and see.
Biot was really a cool place and we enjoyed it more than we expected. The village was a center of 'jar' production over the centuries and huge jars that once transported olive oil and wine around the Mediteranean were produced there. There are serveral nice restaurants, shops, and galleries in the village. We bought table cloths in this store on the main plaza and they were priced much lower than the same table cloths in Eze or Antibes.
One of the best meals we had on our trip was in the Le Cafe de la Poste. This place appears to be frequented by both locals and tourists and our meal was really excellent.
When I am stressed at work I close my eyes and pretend I am in Biot. The Domeine du Jas is the perfect place to base your trips around the region.

Room Tip: As for a view of the pool.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in July and loved it! It is a 10-15 minute drive from Antibes and yet it is quiet and peaceful, in the small village of Biot. It is also well placed to take the train to Nice or other spots along the coast if you don't wan't to drive or don't have a car. The old part of the town is perched on a hill just above the hotel and is well worth a visit. Try the Cafe du Post in the town square for a relaxing, high quality meal. The hotel is perfect-- small and stylish with a beautiful pool. Our room was large and comfortable, with a small terrace out onto the pool. The hotel staff were delightful-- very friendly and helpful. Breakfast by the pool is a real treat. Highly recommended.

We spent 3 wonderful days here. It was so relaxing and quiet. We arrived a bit early, but had the occasion to use the pool. Staff was very helpful and serviceminded. They carried our luggage to the room and give us good advice where to go for dinner. We went for Chez Odile, and that was a very good choice.
Its a 15 min walk up to the charming little city of Biot. A little hot in July, but you can also take bus nr. 10.
The hotel was so charming, got the feeling of a hacienda. Lovely terrasse where we enjoyed a delicios breakfast. All room with private terasse, And AC. Wonderful.
Going down to Biot Gare you will find the most fantastic bakery of French Macarons.

We stayed at the Domaine du Jas in July while we were attending the funeral of our best friend, who lived in Biot. As we had come a very long way, the room was booked for us and the bill was paid by his widow so we don't know how much it was.

We found the hotel extremely friendly and the staff could not have been more helpful. When we arrived at 8.15pm the guy on reception spent about half any hour trying to get alternative accommodation in the area for a French family who had stupidly turned up out of the blue on one of the busiest days of the year, with no booking.

We can speak French but the staff spoke English, too.

The double room was small but perfectly adequate. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed our breakfast on the attractive terrace overlooking the swimming pool where there was a lot of choice and one could keep on going back for more. I can't understand the person who criticised the breakfasts.

It wasn't the Ritz but it was perfectly adequate and we would recommend it.

My other half and I stayed here for 4 nights in August 2012. We had a lovely time and would very happily return.

The positives:

- The pool!
- Beautiful views from the breakfast terrace
- Very picturesque village nearby, with a couple of lovely restaurants
- Nice buffet breakfast (though not cheap at 14E)
- Friendly and helpful staff, who recommended nice restaurants and were happy to make reservations for us
- Good air con in rooms
- Quick drive to beaches and nice places for day trips

The negatives:

- While the room was clean, perfectly presentable and (as said above) nicely chilled, the decor was fairly plain. Certainly, if you are after designer wallpaper, rustic ceiling beams or something more swish on the interior design front, you may be disappointed...
- Would be a bit boring without a car, I imagine. While Biot is picturesque (though a steep climb!), you can look around in less than a day.
- If you want to eat late (and by "late" I mean post 9-ish) then your options are very limited and likely to involve a drive. The hotel doesn't serve food and the village restaurants do not seem to stay open very late by continental European standards.

This hotel was very comfortable and the staff were so welcoming and helpful. We had fresh linen every day and the buffet breakfast was ideal. The views are wonderful and it is so central for everything on the Cote D'Aure. Would recommend it highly.
