Having read previous reviews I don’t think some people read the hotel information properly before booking! It clearly says on all the booking websites that a pack of sheets, pillow cases and towels have to be rented at 18euros per person, unless you take your own. Plus you do have to put the sheets on the beds and take them back to reception at the end of your stay. You also pay a refundable deposit of 200euros per room and you must leave the room clean and take your rubbish to the dustbins, or they will deduct 55euros from your deposit for cleaning. Again this info is clearly provided on all the websites. So if you know what to expect, you probably won’t be too put out, as the hotel is quite cheap, considering that this is the exclusive South of France and all accommodation prices tend to be high.
Hotel is in a residential area of Antibes in a quiet side street. It’s more like an apartment block than a hotel. If you go, expect 3-star standards, clean apartments and nice pools, friendly multi-lingual staff - and you won’t be too disappointed. Don’t bother paying extra for a sea view room, we did, but could only see about 2 inches of distant sea view. There is a single sofa bed with another single bed underneath that you pull out. This pull-out one has extendable legs so you can be on the same level as your partner and push the beds together! There are also bunk beds in the lobby area, although not good if you are over 5ft 6 tall unless you like sleeping in the foetal position. Plenty of storage space for clothes and a fridge, hob, microwave, dishwasher and flatscreen TV.
The location is ok if you don’t mind a bit of walking as there is nothing much around the hotel at all. We found a bakery serving fresh coffee and croissants, and a supermarket, if you turn right out of the hotel and walk through a car park and then turn left at the end (10 mins walk). Hotel is also about 10 minutes walk to Antibes train station where you can take direct trains cheaply to all the other resorts along the coast - we did Cannes, Juan Les Pins and Monte Carlo – all worth a visit. You can get the 250 bus from Nice Airport Terminal 2 to the bus stop opposite Antibes station (15 euros return, takes about 20 mins). Hotel is about 20 minutes walk to old Antibes and the port – the first few roads you cross after leaving the hotel are busy so don’t chance crossing until the traffic lights go red – we saw a nasty accident.
Rooftop pool in hotel is nice and peaceful (sunbeds but no bar so keep drinks in your apartment fridge and take them up there). There is also another pleasant pool and well-kept gardens. Hotel is right next door to a public indoor swimming pool / leisure centre, so you can always go in there if the weather’s bad.
There’s a bar in the hotel but no atmosphere, was always empty when we were there. You have to get one of the reception staff to come and serve your drinks.
You have to check out of your room by 10am but can leave luggage with hotel.
Would I return? It was pretty good value for money and it was clean, but I would probably rather stay nearer to old Antibes, or in Cannes. A long review but it’s important to know what to expect.
