Like most of the other reviews the hotel is overpriced, the staff in general were OK until you had to deal with the management who were rude and very short sighted. An example of this, was when we were were trying to find out about booking a special lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary, the staff on the front desk called out the Manager, but before we could say anything she was more concerned what was in our carrier bags and she became rude, and wanted to confiscate the bags, as result they lost our custom for the lunch. The ironic thing is what wasin the bags was for a picnic on the beach and not for consumption within the hotel, even though we tried to explain. We would not go back there or recommend the hotel.

This was our 4th stay at the Imperial which still divides opinions as much as ever. We think it's a great destination for a quiet weekend without the kids. It's a small two storey property. The garden view first floor rooms are the ones we prefer as you don't get disturbed by the pool noise.

We like:
The slightly gallic arrogance of the staff which will not be to everyone's taste

The proximity to the beach which effectively gives you a choice of 4 or 5 places for lunch. The hotel has an arrangement with one of the beaches (Plage Keller) whereby all costs can be charged to your room

The restaurant which we think is pretty good but which is very underused

The whole garden setting which makes you feel like you are guests in someone's private home - breakfast on one's own balcony being a particular highlight.

We don't like:

The cost - which is at the high end of pricey for what you get

The extras - including a charge of 50 cents every time you ask them to make a restaurant reservation for you - really!!

Other people's kids - the place is too small to take the noise and we're biased because we only go there to get away from kids in the first place

But for some reason, it just suits us and I guess we'll keep returning.

I've just returned from a stay at the Imperial Garoupe and my advice would be to stay away from this chilly, mean-spirited little place. The hotel has a great location in one of the most luxurious areas of the Cote D'Azure and some beautiful grounds, but it was devoid of any warmth, charm or sense of place. Despite the pink Mediterranean architecture, it felt like we could have been in any wealthy suburb in the world, from Beverly Hills to the north shore of Long Island -- a feeling made considerably worse by the lack of any views of the spectacular scenery nearby. Rooms were certainly large and comfortable, with hints of luxury here and there, but they weren't particularly inspiring.

A few years ago I happened on a small hotel in Cap-Ferrat -- a few miles down the road from Antibes -- called Hotel Le Panoramic. It was quite basic, though comfortable; each room had a balcony with a drop dead view looking back toward the Riviera and the surrounding mountains. It cost maybe a quarter the price of the Imperial Garoupe, and despite the lack of a fancy restaurant or a swimming pool, I'd take it hands down over the pricier place.

The hotel looks very nice, both inside and outside. The pool is good, and the (very crowded) beach is a short walk. Rooms are nicely decorated and all in all people are very friendly. It was high season and the hotel wasn't full. 90% of guests were Russians.
Our issue, however, is the management. We had an problem and it has been very, very badly managed by the hotel. I will never return.

The hotel is marvelous. It is very close to 4 private beaches, some of the prettiest in France. The service is good, food is good. A nice, quiet pool, parking, etc. It is absolutely beautiful

In my opinion this place is very very expensive I payed 350 euro per night. The breakfast was awful and very expensive. The hotel is in a nice location but not near to the beach, the decor is nice but nothing special. When I returned from my break I was overcharged £850 for a small red mark on my bedspread which i did not do. A collegue of mine was also charged a large amount of money for breaking a mirror which was not correclty fixed to the draw cabinet. THe management in this place are greedy and unsypathetic (see other reviews) there are much nicer and cheaper hotels in Cannes

I stayed here in early September 2002, and despite the picture in the brochure, was disappointed on arrival. The hotel suggests 4*, quiet location, private beach etc. The reality is that the hotel is on a busy road, the private beach is so private it belongs to someone else, charges for use and is not connected to the hotel. The food is ok, room service was very slow. The rooms, (I was staying in the best suite) were bland, and my terrace overlooked the aforementioned road. To sum up I left after 3 days of a weeks booked stay, and had to argue with the owner about leaving when I complained! There are much better places to stay for the money. Shame on Small Luxy Hotels.
