Fabulous Roman ruin Trophy of emperor Augustus which was built so well it actually withstood demolition by a later french king.

“Amazing Vista!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013 via mobile

Driving from Cannes to Monte Carlo along the coast was already thrilling and beautiful. As we approached our destination side road signs were indicating "Le trophee des alpes". So we stopped in this little village by the name of La Turbie and made our way to the Roman Ruin which marks the invasion of the area by the Roman. The Temple sits at the Edge of the mountain dominating the "moyenne Corniche". The remains of the temple are interesting but the view... Wow! You have a 180 degree unobstructed view of the mediterranean coast line all the way to the Italian border on one side and all the way to Nice on the other side. Spend that half an hour there and feel like a soaring eagle.

“A gem and great view of Monaco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

Yu orobably don't need another reason to drive the Grand Corniche from Nice to Monaco, but if you do, this is it, a roman monument whose lush grounds afford one of the bes views of Monte Crlo and Monaco Bay below as well as the coast all the way to Menton. the munument has an entry fee but well worth it, since it not only gains admission to the park like grounds, but you can climb to the top of this fascinating monument to get even better views. A brochure is available as it good singage. A great place to stop, and gaze at one of the most beautiful coastlines on the planet before returning to your car for the hairpin turns down to frenetic Monaco.

If you are aware of history, this is the place where August stopped Annibe and forced him to go back to Carthagen.
