“Dirty room, sagging mattress, hair on the bed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

First of all, I didn't book this room. Someone else had booked it for us, so I had absolutely no say in the choice of accommodation. We stayed here three nights and I dreaded every second.

Upon entering the room, we were greeted by a damp smell. The room was dirty and there was hair (not ours!!) on the bed. My roommate and I complained about the hair three times, and after each morning cleaning, there was still hair on the bed.

The beds were terrible and the mattresses were old and sagging. It left me with an aching back.

Furthermore, the hotel is in an unsafe part of Avignon. There is a bus just outside that you can take to the old part of the city, but on the way back, it passes through some really gritty parts of the city. I like travelling on public transport, but I felt very uncomfortable travelling in this area.

The only saving grace was the breakfast, which was surprisingly good.

The Vert Hotel scores very high on the icky factor. I would never recommend it.

Room Tip: There is no good room in this hotel. Go stay elsewhere!

While the looks of the place seems quaint...it is in what seems to be a not very good area of town. The floors of the rooms were dirty. there were cobwebs and tiny spiders in them...a few of us received bites that were suspiciously spider bite looking...that swelled and bruised and oozed fluid. the bedspreads were dirty and stained and the mattresses smelled like mildew...i saw no options for a/c. The only way to cool the room was to open the windows that had no screens..so the mosquitoes showed up like they were here for a human buffet. the breakfast was good though....although i wonder if the rooms were so dirty then how was the kitchen...i guess it's best not to think about it.

Well, I agree with most reviews made about the hotel: the images of the hotel you find on most booking sites are overly positive. Rooms are quite narrow, and the mattress we had in our room was more like a hammock. Furniture is also quite simple and limited. Cleaniness is acceptable - not more, not less. The hotel is quite a distance from the city center, so if you like sight-seeing, you should probably take that into account. Anyhow, there was also a good side about the stay: staff is quite nice, parking is free.
Concerning money-for-value (overall): Avignon seems to be an expensive place, so maybe it is a little unfair to say that the money-for-value received was relatively low, but that was my impression.

When booking this hotel for our trip to the south of France, we were fooled by the nice images we saw on the internet. From the pictures on the hotel website, you get the impression that this hotel is in a nice old neighborhood. This is not at all the case.

The hotel is set in a very commercial area, 5km outside of Avignon and right beside the hotel is a massive American-style Oriental buffet restaurant. It's surrounded by a massive movie theatre, a whole bunch of very non-French restaurants, and very ugly-looking apartment buildings.

We did not eat breakfast at the hotel. Instead we drove into the centre of Avignon and ate at a bakery.

I can't say that there was anything particularly WRONG with the room, as we didn't expect much for the price, but there was absolutely no charm to the neighborhood, the hotel, nor the room.

I would not recommend this hotel.

The motel is set near some major shopping areas about 5 minutes drive from the center of the city. The enclose secure parking is a plus. Check in was a breeze, and the staff spoke enough English so that I did not have to butcher the French language. The room was small but adequate as I was flying solo and only staying one night. A much longer stay may not be too comfortable here. The value was great relative to it's neighbors prices too.

Overall - this property is not worth the money at all. It is good for one night, but that is all I can say. Beds were surprisingly good for this kind of Hotel. Nevertheless, there were Spider webs in the corners and under the table. Dust on the wooden cover of the lamps. The old guy with behind the reception was able to speak English quite well, but his sense of humour was truly strange. This "weirdo" scared us a little. And what more, he heard our private call. And the possibility of breakfast for 9 EUR??? No, thank you...

Negatives: very tiny and worn rooms, breakfast for extra fee
Positives: secure parking area, free internet, friendly staff
Overall, it was quite an expensive place considering the quality. We wouldn't stay there again.
