“A gem across the street from Palais des Papes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

La Mirande is a lovely hotel in the old city of Avignon. The rooms are decorated in a very country French style. My room had a balcony with a view of Palais des Papes and the rooftops of the city. A nice retreat on a sunny day. The hotel staff were great and the gardens are very inviting for drinks or dinner or breakfast.

This hotel is exactly as it should be. Stunningly beautiful. Perfect location. Lovely service. The restaurant served a great dinner and the chef came out to greet us. Great experience. I would reccomend this hotel and would love to visit it again.

Room Tip: Best rooms have a view of the palace.

Dear Sir, Dear Madam,

thank you very much for your comments and for having emphasized the passion and kindness of our chef Jean-Claude Aubertin.
Looking forward to having the great pleasure of welcoming you again at La Mirande... maybe for a cooking class with our other chef, Jean-Claude Altmayer.

Best regards

One of the most beautiful outdoor seating space i've seen.
The hotel is gorgeous and beautifully decorated. It's expensive but it's a 5* hotel. The service is good although on a fee occasion we couldn't find staff.
Would recommend this place for drinks or food.

Dear Sir, Dear Madam,

thank you very much for having taken the time to write on your experience at La Mirande. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay and were sensitive to the very special atmosphere in our hotel. Nevertheless I also would like to apologize for the inconvenience you are mentioning in your revue : you said that , at one point, you had to wait for someone from our staff. As a five star hotel, we put considerable stress on the service's diligence. I will therefore share this information with our staff and we will use it to improve ourselves.

Thank you very much and best regards.

First let me say that our tastes very much lean towards simple and modern. The ornate, lavish, country decor of this place is not normally to our tastes, but we absolutely LOVED it. We had two connecting rooms and they were completely different and gorgeous, with brightly colored, fabric-covered walls and lots of antiques - sooooo richly textured. It was really pretty wonderful. And yes some of the furniture and rugs are worn, but nothing struck us as unappealing. The bathrooms were a very nice mix of old world charm and modern amenities. The common areas are just as lovely, especially the bar.
The service was very good - a touch formal, but far from rude, and very efficient & helpful.
The breakfast buffet was tasty, though overpriced. I believe you can order ala carte, which makes a lot more sense if you just want something small.
The pricing of the entire place is pretty high, as many have said. I'm not sure if it's "worth" it, as it's pretty hefty. But it's so unique and wonderful that perhaps it is. It's a GREAT splurge,
The location next to the Pope's Palace is pretty amazing, though it does mean there's noise during the day. Our room was in the front, with the crowds, and it wasn't too awful, but I did hear them a bit at nap time :) Not a peep after 10pm.
I do have to disagree with the recommendations of the Table d'Hote Tuesday & Wednesday dinners in the basement kitchen. While we had a fabulous time chatting with the other guests and the chef, who is a real character, I found the food to be mediocre at best (and not much of it). If it were 50E a person, I'd be much less critical, because it is a great time. But at 86E, it should be both fun and delicious.

Dear Guests,

Thank you very much for your nice comments and the time taken to share your impression with the other internet users.
We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at La Mirande even if you weren't very happy with your dinner at the guest table. You are right, our chef is a real character and the guest table is more than a dinner... it is a performance. The menu offered is the menu of the day, cooked with the seasonal producted bought on the market. The chef propose only one choice per day. I can believe that the proposal of the chef on that very day did not fit with your expectations.
We hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you again very soon and surprise you with another menu.

Best regards.

The hotel was exquisite like a bijoux, great taste and character. But for Avignon , 450e for a standard room (about 250 sq ft) without a sitting area or sofa is expensive given the price of real estate and antiques at the moment ( both quite cheap !) This is Paris prices for the countryside . And without breakfast included . 29e per person extra for breakfast which was very charming and great experience like eating in a rich friends grand country house. Don't know if it's worth it to stay here again.

My husband and I have travelled extensively in Europe, but have never been to this region together. When my requested airplane upgrades did not pan out, we opted instead for a luxury hotel as our "treat".
La Mirande is small, exclusive, quiet, and elegantly beautiful. The bed was big and comfortable, the service friendly ( even to us Americans), and the food superb. We did the basement kitchen table d'hote one night, which was fun and delicious. Jean Claude, the chef is magical with the food, and very entertaining.. It was nice to meet other international travelers.
We used Avignon as our base, and drove around each day, but if you have the leisure, one could just stay at this beautiful hotel for a few days and take it all in.. Merci, La Mirande... I hope to be back some day.

Room Tip: Each room is uniquely decorated. My thoughtful sister called ahead and ordered a bottle of Chataneu...

We spent 3 days here after taking the TVG from Paris the last week of March. The TVG is a no brainer and fast.

We had stayed here in January 2013 and enjoyed it so much that we came back with our 2 yound adult children. The hotel is enchanting and every facet of the hotel was perfect, as it was the last time. We had a room overlooking the courtyard and the Papes. Could not have been more perfect.

The location is perfect. GO!
