“Surround yourself with Charming Walls”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2010

1st Impressions = Wow! The Building is gorgeous, the courtyard's big beautiful green trees and water fountain put you in a good place. The Arch's in corridors really are something to see.
The Service is typical European. You get a few smiles, but language barriers in foreign countries don't make it easy.
The room was cosy. High ceilings are fantastic. The large wooden windows over-looking a window really make you feel like you are in the south of France.
The Bathroom is not quite modern. Almost. GREAT shower pressure.
Toilet was seperate to bathroom. This was fairly annoying!
Location is perfect..Close to town but away from ALL street noise.
Pillows were far the WORST I have ever used in a hotel.
Bed was very comfortable but awoke with slight lower back pain.
Phone line was very faint, could hardly hear anybody.
Went to the bar and waited about 8 minutes for service, (another staff member on could have helped but it was 11pm at night).
If the room had of stuck to plain and simple white sheets, white doona, white paint, it would have opened the room up and made it for me personally, a little nicer.
However...Most of the time you are wondering the amazing little streets of the town.
Breakfast a little boring and COLD however....its France. At least we had scrambled eggs and the most scrumptious cheese.
RECOMMENDED.

A lovely architectural structure with a helpful but overworked staff. The hotel lacked atmosphere across the board. Our rooms were in a former attic and were hot. The bedside lamp didn't work. We sat in the bar for 20 minutes and never saw the waitstaff.... The hotel's best feature is its location. We were ready to leave after our two night stay.

I recommend the hotel due to its excellent location and adequate facilities but would investigate other facilities before booking the Cloitre Saint Louis Hotel.

Hotel was fit for a ghost story...expensive for rooms with sewage smell..had to cross an old abandoned chapel used for storage to go to the triple room...the staff was cold, unfriendly..The restaurant was excellent although empty and spooky..Avignon is a very shady town with shady people; strange for being such a historical gem. I recommend it as a day trip only.

Stayed in this hotel in November 2009 on a pass through Avignon on my way to Aix the next day. Impressive hallways etc but was disapointed in the room. May be nice on a culinary experience. but I didn't do it. Anyway Avignon is absolutely dead in November as it is most of the Winter. I was the only person in the central plaza in front of the Papal Palace.

Overall this was the loveliest hotel I have stayed in for a long time, and it was good value at 90Euro per room per night. However, you need to ask about the room features if you have children or limited mobility. booked one night and then added another when we arrived - the hotel looked absolutely charming and it was in a great location.
The car park is outdoors, out the back - drop your bags off before parking if you have any difficulty carrying them. There is a lovely central courtyard that the restaurant overlooks and a pleasant reception with free wifi access. Reception and restaurant staff were all friendly. Our rooms were in the old section. We had a bathroom at the entrance, then a set of stairs up to the bedroom/lounge area (we didn't mind this but our companions found it a chore to use the stairs so often). Our circular windows overlooked another small courtyard (lovely windows, but not at all child safe). The old, exposed ceiling beams were gorgeous but you do need to keep them in mind so you don't bump your head. It was snowing but the portable heaters in our room were effective in keeping us warm. We ate in the restaurant one night - fantastic food but the prices were high. The place was very noisy once it got full, and the overhead heaters were a bit too hot to keep on but it was cold without them.
Minor complaints: There was a power blackout on the second night leaving us in pitch black for a number of hours with no explanation or apologies from management. Also, a number of light globes were blown in our room on arrival and despite numerous requests and promises to fix them (twice with me waiting in the room for them to come), they were only replaced after electricians inspected all the rooms following the blackout and we asked them to look into it.

Opted for a superior room on the hotel website - very good rate about €103 per night. Had a duplex type room which was kinda quirky but nice. Nice view and it snowed whilst we were there it was class! The room was nice overall no problems and well equipped. the hotel is totally central so you can walk to the palaces within 10 minutes. Avignon is a beautiful city try check out Arles as well as its stunning and very close. Staff all pleasant - we ha d to walk through a church to get to our room! There is a very old church built into the hotel and some rooms are accessed through this! Loads of parking on site it was free for our say but i think you normally pay - maybe during high season? Watch out for the lovely cat princess!! Definitely check out the hotel restaurant - we ate there both nights and i had the nicest meal probably i have had anywhere - the lamb was superb and so reasonable! All the food there is great but the lamb was definitely the best

My friend and I just got back from Avignon. We loved staying in the older section of the hotel. The rooms are charming (we had standard room). The hotel location was perfect and the food was excellent. We ate in the dining room every night! We loved David, our waiter.
The staff was pleasant and helpful.
