The only good things to say about this hotel are it is well located and the breakfast is not bad. Everything else is terrible. Where should i start? Rooms - old, dirty, noisy, poorly decorated, no views etc you get the jist.
Service at the front desk - very poor. Grumpy & unhelpful. Worthy of a 2 star hotel at best.
It feels like a boarding school and not a hotel.
I am pretty open to different standards of hotels but this is probably, for the money paid, the worst hotel i have ever stayed in.

Most beautiful hotel with gorgeous rooftop pool and sundeck . Lovely grounds and marvellous designer public rooms and bedrooms . The major flaw was a ring of mould round the bath and sprouting mould extensively under the bathroom sink resulting in mouldy smell . Probaly the lack of ventilation in the bathroom was a significant contib utor to that . Such a shame when everything else was spot on .

We lucked out with a lovely room overlooking the courtyard and magnificent trees. The best part was walking through the balcony of the actual chapel to get to the room. The location could not have been better, just a block away from the central train station and shuttle to the TGV, and right off the main road through Avignon. Service was lacking; cleaning staff seems to keep all the carts etc. in the hallways; reception was a mess when a large party came in. Having breakfast with noisy attendees of a conference heralded by large banners on "schizophrenia today" was less than ideal. Luckily, they stayed in the other wing of the hotel with its laughable "fitness area." The mistral just kicked up so too windy to enjoy the sun deck and sliver of a rooftop pool.

This hotel has lost the plot. When we visited fifteen years ago it was glamorous, immaculate, upscale. Now it is tired, downmarket and frankly seems to be on its last legs. The staff were all friendly and tried their best but the management must be in crisis as the restaurant was badly understaffed, the first room I visited 110 grubby, the doors, floors, walls and chairs run down and in places badly worn. This is a magnificent setting and I wouod like to say the food in the restaurant was the one saving grace. But the overall experience was a huge disappointment. This magnificent piece of Avignon architectural history needs a complete rethink, refurb and relaunch. It deserves better.

I wouldn't stay at this hotel again despite it's gloriously atmospheric cloister with it's bleached Plane Trees and fountain. The old part of the hotel houses long wide corridors suggestive of monastic life and our room was in keeping with this pious frugality. Not a hint of comfort or luxury. The bed was rock hard and we each had a pillow filled with shredded memory foam making a lumpy and uncomfortable affair. The floor was tiled - very practical - and furnishings sparse. The electrics were faulty causing my partner's bedside lamp to sporadically flicker and switch off with a worrying electrical crackle. We reported it and we think the bulb was changed but the problem continued.
The bathroom - oh dear. A slightly rusted shower head surrounded by a rail and curtain. A water flow that pulsed hot and cold when taking a shower. The basin unit (made of some resin material trying to be marble) appeared unfinished, complete with manufacturers sticker on the front of the unit! The underside with all its pipe work etc was proudly on show and It was really unsightly. Other than that a forlorn white plastic chair.Toiletries were spartan but I guess we only ever use the shampoo and shower gel anyhow.

Breakfast a slightly bizarre affair with only two smallish domestic sized kettles providing hot water for all the hotel's breakfast clientele. Much hovering over the boiling kettles (when eventually refilled) to make sure you got a look in. Massively expensive - suggest the excellent boulangerie across the road. Mugs, teapots, cups etc not often replenished. However the baguettes provided were beautiful and I loved the rose petal 'jam' and the lavender honey, but 32 euros for a bit of fruit, bread and jam for two, come on!
The restaurant was out of bounds for two nights we were there due to two conferences. Shame because the dinner was better value than the breakfast. Our window was above the outside restaurant area so we were treated to the cigarette smoke of conference delegates and also kitchen staff at the end of their late shift, plus talking and heated discussions lingering into the late late night.
Roof terrace is quite nice, the pool more of a token pool but welcome after a day on your feet exploring.
Staff were friendly but brisk. Feel of hotel slightly impersonal and lacking warmth. I wouldn't go back again as I know there is better out there and ironically at a more reasonable price, A four star rating really does not guarantee four star facilities or service, that is the confusing world of hotel star accreditation. I think the four stars for this hotel are weighted towards its location and historical interest, not standard of service or accommodation.

When you step into this little alley to enter the hotel you do not expect much and then you are impressed! The stone walls are original, the courtyard is big and very quiet. The staff is very friendly, multilingual. The elevator is very small so be aware of that. The toilet area of the room needed some more cleaning and a bit of updating but other than that, you will love this place. We stayed in the old part and stepped back in time. The restaurant is to your left as you walk towards the elevator and it looks very impressive. We did not have time to eat there.

The room was big, modern, furnished sparsely but well. The bathroom had a bathtub and a shower, very modern.
The windows and shutters are very old-school, enormous, and they really protect against the Mistral, you can tell.
The monastery is located in the center of town but it is very quiet.

If you are looking for a place with blasting air conditioning in the Avignon summer, then do not stay here, stay at home. If you want to step back in time and feel part of a cultural experience, then stay at this place!

Room Tip: Stay in the old part.

We had 5 nights in an Exclusive room in the old part of the building, large comfortable room retaining some of the period features and overlooking the courtyard. Bathroom was adequate, toilet is almost an afterthought, but given the age of the building some restrictions would apply. However, the room became very hot during the evenings leading one to wonder whether the air conditioning was turned off.

We enjoyed several evening meals at the hotel, and for a four star hotel prices were not unreasonable, possibly kept in check by the many nearby bistros and restaurants. I wish I could say the same about the buffet breakfast. For a buffet a very limited choice is on offer, and ranks as one of the worst breakfasts we have had in a hotel in the last 15 years. Cost was16 euros per head and on a value for money perspective is not a good choice. For what was on offer I would have preferred a continental breakfast but that was not available, unless one used room service at 18 euros per head. I would suggest you walk 50 metres from the hotel to the main street, full of cafes, bistros and a top bakery. You will eat better for less.
