“Oasis in the middle of the old town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

The town of Arles can seem somewhat threatening when you're walking through the old dark streets and alleys at night. We never had a problem but it wasn't a welcoming place. Hotel Particulier was an Oasis. It's a hidden gem that doesn't reveal itself until the old wooded door swings open and you find yourself in the middle of a completely enclosed courtyard with beautiful trees, plants, flowers and water effects. Our room was very large and beautifully decorated. The staff did everything possible to make us feel like we were at home once we stepped inside the gate. If we ever visit Arles again we will definitely stay at Hotel Particulier!

This is a wonderful hotel! A real hidden gem! You enter a door on a small street into a beautiful garden with lovely trees and flowers and a pretty swimming pool. We had made our reservations for the 2nd and 3rd of October of this year and requested a large suite. Unfortunately we had mistaken our itenerary by one day and should have made them for the 3rd and the 4th. By the time we realized our mistake, the large suite was no longer available for the last night. They said they were sorry and would try to see what they could do. We wrote several times to dear Mikael while travelling, but there was no change. When we arrived on the 3rd, there was Mikael, Diana, and Cyrille to great us with the wonderful news that they had been able to give us a love large suite overlooking the garden and pool.

The room was fabulous! As beautiful as the pictures suggest. I had read some comments in Trip Advisor about the beds being very hard. That certainly was not our experience. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable. The room lovely and white with elegant accessories, a large bathroom and lovely view.

It is just a couple of blocks to the center of town. The staff was so very helpful, giving tips on restaurants, sights, maps, etc. Breakfast in the garden was a delight. They have a very highly rated restaurant at the Hotel Particulier and we made reservations there for our second night. When we got to the restaurant it was filled with a large group of bicylers who were travelling together through France. The Maitre D' came to use and said they had something special planned for our dinner (it was our anniversary). He took us to a beautiful private room just off the garden with candles, flowers, a fireplace, paintings of angels and a love table for two made up just for us. It was a night we will always remember. The food was fabulous and the atmosphere and service was devine.

Thank you Mikael, Diana and Cyrille for a fantastic stay in your beautiful hotel. We cannot wait to return.

The website caught my eye....such beautiful rooms and all in white! But as you know sometimes websites can be deciving....NOT HERE! Although it took our GPS to find this hidden jewel the adventure was worth it. Beautiful all white rooms - linen and antiques everywhere. It was truly better than we could have imagined. A great staff...friendly and helpful in every way. The courtyard is a dream. A wonderful setting for cocktails before dinner. You don't even know the city is just across the wall. If you've ever been to the French Quarters in New Orleans and wondered what was behind the walled gates....this is it! Arles is an interesting town to explore and Hotel Particulier is the place to stay.

to arrival. This booking was for the last weekend in September, which are the final days in high season. On booking they took 50% and on cancellation they took the other 50%, therefore taking 100% of the booking! One expects to pay a penalty but never have I met a hotel that took the FULL cost of the stay on cancellation. It is in their terms and conditions but it was not pointed out when booking.
To add insult to injury, when I questioned this in an email, saying it was a full three weeks ahead of the booking etc etc, they didn't even have the courtesy to respond. Shame on them.

Like staying in a chateau. Lovely courtyard with adequate pool to cool down. Nice room with antique furniture, delicious breakfast served with antique cutlery and silverware. Friendly staff, great place from which to explore and enjoy the wonderful Roman heritage of Arles.

Very charming and unusual having been created from a mélange of properties.
The staff were all lovely, prompt and very efficient.
Our room was nicely styled but the conversion to incorporate a separate toie and en-suite shower-room was silly. The toilet was the smallest I have ever used and did not have a basin which made the point of the conversion pointless.
The swimming pool would only be suitable for one person (but it is a small hotel); it would help to have handrails to assist entering and leaving pool.

Room Tip: Not Room 10; toilet ridiculously small

We stayed two nights in this hotel. It has a five star rating but I am not convinced it merits that. Four stars at the most simply because it is very awkward in design in the bathroom and not at the comfort level of a five star experience. Nonetheless the staff were helpful and welcoming. The pool is more like a lap pool than the real family swim type pool but people seemed to enjoy it. A nice spot for a romantic getaway but I wouldn't use it with kids although, some did. The dining room was good. Food good. Parking was an extra charge and not easily accesible but the hotel staff took care of the car. The hotel location is great, in the centre of town, but very difficult to get to by car. I probably wouldn't stay there again as I didn't think it was value for money with a five star rating.

Room Tip: Check out the bathroom before you agree to a room. The bathroom we had was very awkward. Not pract...
