“Arles value hoped for…and received”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

We stayed at the Hotel du Forum for six nights at the beginning of a three week tour of Provence, the Dordogne and Paris. We feel fortunate to have stayed with Madame and Monsieur Oggier who were a constant source of good and happily provided information; especially restaurants to go to and scenic routes to follow between Arles and Avignon, Aix en Provence, Les Baux and the Camargue. If you do not speak French well, Madame speaks English better than you speak her language. Perhaps more importantly, she has several employees (Lela, Doris, Regina) who speak English well and are charming and engaging as well.

It is not a fancy hotel but the rooms are clean and it is centrally located in Arles on the square opposite where Van Gogh’s Café de Nuit stood. Actually, from an atmospheric sense, the pool room in the Hotel du Forum is much closer to a Van Gogh interior than you will find across the street.

We were here before the season began and thus, perhaps, received more attentive service than one might receive when the hotel is crowded. But, a visiting group of American high schoolers were here for a couple of nights and they were handled easily with no diminution of service to us.

If you are coming to Arles looking for big screen TVs and ten pillows on your bed…go to a Marriott somewhere else. But if you are looking for both personal warmth and simple efficiency at a reasonable price, the Hotel du Forum is an excellent place to stay. There is a pool that was not open in April, but it looks inviting. Van Gogh might have painted it.

My only real complaint is the constant bad music in the background in the public spaces…but this has become almost universal. Frankie, the bar man in the pool room, will turn it down if you ask. He’s a longhaired charmer by the way…although, Lela and Doris are my favorites, beautiful young women with winning smiles who could be ballerinas.

Room Tip: The bathtub/shower in our room was awkward to get into. Ask to see the room first.

Frankly speaking, you may find Arles fascinating or just good and quite small city it's up to you - what you really like, but the best place to live in Arles while you there is Forum Hotel. I wont tell much but the facts are:
1. Feel like home hospitality.
2. English speaking personal.
3. Perfect price offer.
4. Clean and big enough appartments.
5. Perfect position in the city regarding all the main sites of view and good restaraunts.
6. Very comfortable bar to stay during the rain.
7. If you are traveling with kids - you are very special guests.

All the best recomendations to this hotel!

Personal thanks and respect for a big hand of help to Valerie, Frederic, Frank, Renata and Lile!

A great little hotel with a great local acrossthe square from the yellow cafe of Van Go fame. Great pool and very refreshing after walking around Arles and seeing the Roman ruins and the sites of Van Go. The breakfast was very good and the staff at the hotel was excellent and the room was very large.

The Hotel du Forum was the focal center of our three day stay in Arles. In spite of being located in the heart of the old city, our GPS lead us precisely through the narrow one-way streets to the hotel. (Do stop at the Tourist Visitor center on your way in). We were greeted at the door, and our SUV driven to a nearby locked garage by the doorman. We were traveling with my parents, so the elevator was a real key, as well as the walk-in shower in their room, unlike our hotel in Paris. Our rooms were quite spacious, with the tall ceilings adding to the sense of great space. We enjoyed the hearty breakfast each morning at the hotel. One morning when a tour group filled the dining room, hotel management suggested they serve us in our room. The four of us very much enjoyed looking out over the the Place du Forum while enjoying our croissants, breads, cheeses, tea and coffee. The location was perfect for walking to the Roman forum and other preserved sites, as well as to the incredible Arles market, said to be the largest in Europe (unbelievable array of olives, cheeses, fish and seafood, sweets and breads, and more). We also day-tripped from Arles to many nearby sites. The hotel management was quite helpful in making restaurant recommendations, and there are many nearby that are quite good. If you enjoy Van Gogh, it was a unique treat to be right across from the yellow cafe featured in his famous painting! We very much enjoyed Arles, and the Hotel Du Forum was a perfect place to return to each afternoon. We highly recommend this hotel to you!

Room Tip: We very much enjoyed the "yellow" room on the 3rd floor facing the Van Gogh Cafe on the sq...

We stayed here couple of nights in the summer and the location is absolutely phenomenal. Right in the middle of everything. The room was enormous and fairly comfortable and the hotel has a really nice pool as well. If you are coming by car, especially a bigger one, beware. It's maze of tiny one-way street and it takes a bit of nerves getting through that labyrinth, but it is definitely worth it.

We really enjoyed the Hotel du Forum in Arles. It has a secluded courtyard swimming pool that was a real treat in June. We ate our breakfasts and enjoyed a dip in the afternoon. We ate the hotels breakfasts and they were better than expected. Get an upper room in the front that faces Van Gogh's "Yellow Cafe" a real treat for Van Gogh fans.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the square. Viewing Van Gogh's "Yellow Cafe" in the "fles...

Stayed at Hotel du Forum in September and enjoyed the visit. Located in central old Arles within walking distance to all attractions. Friendly staff, nice pool, room was spacious with safe, bathroom fine but no soap included. The hotel employs a 're-use your towel' policy. Our room was located at the back area and not over the square so quiet. Pool table in the bar area. Situated on the Forum Square opposite the Van Gogh Yellow Cafe but wouldn't go there for a meal, many other restaurants to choose from. Nothing to say that's negative.

Room Tip: Use the pool and the pool table.
