“Lovely hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

In October 2012, we stayed at Le Calendal for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The hotel is well situated in the old city, close to the Roman ruins and lots of shops and restaurants. While parking is off site, it is very close by. The room was small, clean and tastefully decorated. There is a cafe attached to the hotel and the food was reasonable and good. The front desk staff were very helpful. Arles is a nice town to explore and this hotel made it easy to do so. We would stay there again.

My husband and I enjoyed our October stay at the Calendal. The hotel is in the perfect location. Very friendly/helpful staff. Room/bathrooms (very important for American sensibilities) were great. Loved the outside terrace for early morning cafe or afternoon wine. Of course, we would stay there again! In fact, I was unable to get into the Jules Cesar hotel - thank goodness! This location was much better.

Room Tip: We chose a room on the first level - very cute! With its own patio area. Loved it. Room wasn't h...

This hotel is so well located right next to the Roman theater and within walking distance to everything in the town of Arles. We couldn't find the hotel in the car, so we parked nearby and walked to it. The most helpful clerk went with us to show us where to park and helped bring our luggage back to hotel! We had a cottage room with a terrace and it was lovely. Bedroom was small, but beds were comfortable. Breakfast and service were excellent. Staff friendly and helped us figure out how to get where we wanted to go. Perfect spot to stay to explore Arles' Roman ruins, and the Van Gogh trail.

i'd stayed at hotel calendal some years ago,
and also at another property outside of arles.
without doubt, staying here is the best way to
be part of all the history that IS arles.
that being said, if you're not good at finding
things...this might be a challenge. streets in
arles are ancient, and narrow, and many near
the roman arena are one-way. moving toward
the arena, and moving uphill, then seeking that
area between the arena and the roman theatre,
will, eventually, get you there. since this puts
you at ground zero of the historic center...it's well
worth the effort.
you'll drop off your bags, and an employee
will ride with you to find the parking garage, a
few blocks away. she'll also guide you back to
the hotel. when you check-out, you can just roll
your bags back to the parking...it's all downhill...
providing, of course, you didn't 'overpack.'
calendal has a nice french 'feel' to it, and the
rooms are comfortable...the biggest feature is
that many of them overlook either the arena, or
the theatre...waking up to that view is special.
calendal also has spa facilities...and a staff that
is friendly, and helpful. i found this out when
making my reservation...i made a mistake with
a date, and an alert employee caught, and cor-
rected. this kind of attention-to-detail is not all
that common today.
most of the historical sites are within walking
distance, and those that are not are easily reached
on a 'tourist train' that runs a circuit through the
town. so, you won't miss not having your car right
there. the street running in front of the hotel, and
then on around the arena, also has many restau-
rants with various choices in cuisines, and there
are even a few bars, incuding a bar/tearoom in
the calendal itself.
in short, this is a great choice to really exper-
ience all that is arles...so don't let the challenge
of getting to it hold you back.

Room Tip: many rooms overlook either the roman arena, or theatre. take your choice. by the way, both the ar...

This is a great place where the staff go out of their way to help in every way. My husband has difficulty walking so the staff placed us in a wonderful room right at ground level and easy to enter and leave. The major sites of Arles were nearby and the garden terrace at the back of the hotel was a very relaxing place where one could sit with a wine, beer, or coffee and read a book for hours after a long day of sightseeing. If we wanted a livelier place, we sat outside at the front and enjoyed watching people on the street and looking over the city. A large common area also had comfortable chairs, magazines, great food and drinks to purchase. We had a very relaxing and comfortable stay in a great location. ... We had a room with a full bath and a balcony overlooking the ancient theater and were quite comfortable. To have Roman ruins outside your room was amazing to say the least. Parking was a few blocks away in a parking garage. The breakfast buffet was quite nice. The Spa was small but relaxing, and Gwen the masseuse was very good. From the jacuzzi you look out at the Roman Ampitheater. Again, amazing. The hotel is right next to the old town, but to find it you'll need a good map or a Garmin. The street in front is tiny, so your car should be too. We would definitely stay there again. It is one of our favorite memories of Europe.

Room Tip: Room 4 has a balcony but overlooks the square where children gather before school.

I think we got the only room with a terrace and sun beds. It was huge!! With views over the amphitheatre and over 2 levels.

The staff were very helpful, carrying my wife's bags up the stairs and providing helpful tips. They seemed genuinely excited to help us see the best of the town. They came running after me too when I left my sunglasses behind (3 blocks away!).

The spa was awesome too and the tiny masseuse who didn't speak any english gave me the exact massage I needed after lots of driving (and dealing with my wife's bags). Breakfast was generous and having the little cafe was very handy.

It was a very relaxing, unpretentious stay that was great value. Exactly what we were after.
