“Wonderful, quirky, friendly hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

A wonderful, very ancient building in the oldest part of Arles, so interesting and quirky, we struggled to find our room again on the first occassion. Built around two idyllic courtyards, one with dining facilities and the other with a plunge pool. Good aircon in the room so comfortable despite the great heat. We had booked a parking space but driving to the hotel was a bit of a challenge, we have a big 4x4 and the 'streets' are barely wider than big alleys. We were somewhat alarmed when we got to the hotel which is on a bend and realised the difficulty involved in parking. Then a young man promptly appeared and said "I will park your car for you" much relief! Going into the hotel we had the warmest friendliest greeting. Our dogs too were made most welcome and there was no charge for them.

Delicious breakfast in the courtyard including 'boil your own egg' , the dogs were able to sit with us. Lovely experience.

Very minor point, no hairdryer. You can borrow one from reception, but need to know that before hand.

Be sure to book a parking place.
When your satnav directs you the wrong way down a one way street, look out for the little sign under the no entry that says 'except for hotel access' sauf something in French. We drove around in circles blaming the satnav until we worked that one out!

Finally, Arles is a really fantastic city, with a lot of Roman sites, well worth a visit.

“Quaint little hotel in Arles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

I stayed here for two nights for what turned into a working vacation. The hotel exudes charm at every term with exposed beams, stonework, courtyards and gardens, and lots of sitting areas. The rooms were comfortable and had a nice atmosphere with high ceilings and exposed beams. As I was working, I always found a great place to set up my laptop in the gardens or in the hotel lounges.

The pools is also great! It was chilly while I was there, so I didn't benefit too much from it. But how cool is it to have a pool in the middle of Arles!?

Also, I found the staff to be very friendly; something that is very important to me.

My suggestion is strengthening the wifi so that the rooms can access it.

“Avoid new annex to hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

I have stayed in the original building previously and enjoyed it very much. However, we were given a room in the newer annex and it was very uncomfortable, unattractive, and disappointing. The toilet seat cover was broken, closet and floor were dirty, towels very thin and non-absorbent, and the staff was indifferent. The older rooms were charming...newer room very cheap and unattractive. I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the original rooms

“Pleasant surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

We booked a room at the hotel d'Arlatan very last minute (the day before) without doing much homework and were very pleased with our choice when we arrived. The hotel is difficult to find and to access by car because the streets are so narrow, but once found it is impressive and ideally located for a pedestrian exploration of Arles. Our room was tastefully furnished, the bed was comfortable, ac functional, the bathroom quite large (despite this being one of the smallest rooms in the hotel). We enjoyed a late-night swim in the pool and wandering through the courtyards. The one thing I would caution is that the breakfast buffet, though really quite a spread, is 15 euros per person. We had, perhaps inadvertently, been told it was 4 euros, and so we had a bit of a shock when we checked out.

“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

This is a lovely quirky place to stay. Our room was almost a copy of the famous Van Gogh painting of his bedroom in Arles, really nice! The whole building is a dream for anyone interested in history and architecture. The tiny tv was around circa 1980 but you don't go on holiday to watch tv after all. Air con worked very well in our room, large bathroom with unfortunately hand held shower but got used to that in the other hotels we stayed in France. Breakfast was the best we had out of all the hotels we stayed in in France and the breakfast rooms were stunning! Very convenient location for all the attractions. Would not hesitate to stay here again.
