I am stunned by the last review, as our experience at this hotel has been exceptional. To us, the standard room was larger than expected, and the decor creative
and pleasing. There were plentiful amenities, including an invitation to the grand re-opening of the hotel, which included a lovely reception including the renowned designed Christian La Croix. The breakfast included was also exceptional, and staff accommodating and friendly.

Bring your sunglasses and nose plugs if you're going to stay at Jules Cesar. As a veteran traveler who is in the hospitality/luxury experience industry this is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in. My room was on the first floor - thankfully not the "dungeon" as some of my colleagues experienced, but nonetheless I had the delightful smell of sewage permeate my room. When I asked to have my room reassigned I was informed nothing else was available - though then again, their English was limited and indeed, I was not tripping on LSD though the decor designed by Christian Lacroix frightened me as well. While I am an avid fashion fan of Christian Lacroix, the hotel was too bright and crazy for my taste. This is more acceptable if the hotel was hip and trendy - none of which I saw. The customer service both in the evening and at breakfast was lacking. Numerous times I asked for the same things - tea and/or a cognac. Neither of which should be a challenge!

Room Tip: Choose a floor starting on the second - away from the sewage smell. Also ask for a large room. Som...

Dear Guest,

First of all, we are very sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your stay at Hotel Jules César Arles. We have taken good note of all your comments and would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused. The Hotel is an historical building, formerly a 17th century Carmelitas convent and was completely renovated and decorated by Christian Lacroix in 2014,the three different levels offer three different and original decoration themes, it owns a cloister in his lower level
Please be assured that the comfort and the satisfaction of our guests are our first preoccupation. Thank you for your understanding and for helping us to improve the quality of our service.

In a 5 star hotel, we may expect to find unhappy & haughty personnel. That is certainly not the case at the Jules Cesar hotel. During our stay, every single time we met personnel of the hotel, they always said hello and smiled to us. All of them were willing to help. Sometimes they even called us by our name.

The room we were in was was large and very nice. It was a bit warm, as the hotel air conditioning had not been started yet. On the other hand, windows are equipped with screens, so sleeping with the windows open was fine. There was not much shelf space to put things though - there is a work desk, half of which is occupied by glasses and coffee machine. No counter in bathroom - an extra table somewhere would be nice. Apart from that, the bed was very comfortable, the room was quiet, we loved it.

Breakfast is excellent - everything tastes very good, the buffet is closely looked after by 2 very nice ladies who are very helpful and smiling. You can also order eggs - try their omelet it is delicious. They also have a good selection of cheeses.

Concierge is very helpful, and gave us good restaurant addresses. Also a special word for Isabel at reception, a wonderful smiling and helpful lady, an asset every hotel should have.

The hotel is well located near the historic center with all the attractions. There are a few tourist restaurants across the road on "boulevard des lices" - I suggest you walk past them and instead enter the historic center - you will find nice jewels. Try for instance the Resto Querida, or the l'Ecrin. Or ask the concierge for other good suggestions.

On Saturday morning there is a large market on Boulevard des Lices - nice to visit and shop. It makes driving a car around a little more complicated on that morning, but the concierge and reception people are very helpful in proposing many solutions.

WiFi was 16 Mbps - impressive for a hotel.

In summary, we had an excellent stay at the Jules Cesar, and would certainly not hesitate to return on our next trip to Arles.

Located in the heart of Arles across the street from the Historic Towne Centre you'll find the Jules Cesar, and at first it takes awhile for your eyes and senses to get used to all the color and art that fills every hall, lounge, dining area etc. This former 17th Century convent is a recent 2014 Christain La Croix redesign. Each hallway, and the rooms on that floor, take on a different palate from muted to wild and crazy color. If one is looking for low key colors and old French design rooms this hotel will not be for you, but if you are looking for bold, bright and modern in a building where they have done a masterful job of blending the old Architecture with new style you will love it, as the La Croix designs are joined with themes Provencal and Monacale. The staff is wonderful, the food and drinks great, and the location perfect.Though you are in a very busy and bustling part of town on a major street there is no noise in the rooms and when you are in the beautiful courtyard or lounging by the pool it is hard to believe that you are not out in the country. Well done!

we spend 3 nights in this beautifully renovated hotel in the centre of Arles. highlights were definitely the great spa, healthy breakfast and service of the staff. hotel is baby friendly. Our tip: get a room on the lower ground level near the inner garden. these rooms are more quite and give a better opportunity to experience the history of the building.

Yes they have spent bucket loads of money renovating a charming but elderly hotel, in a Christian Lacroix décor which might not be everybody's cup of pastis.
There are some great pluses: the location, friendly welcoming staff, and a quirky juxtaposition of bright modern contemporary furnishings against the historic background of an ancient convent.
The big minus for us: a not so cheap suite with a pokey living room furnished quite cheaply a la Ikea, 2 silly uncomfortable chairs straight out from a second-hand store, a ridiculously small and unpractical desk barely big enough for a laptop, excessively bright and cheap ceiling lights without which there was only a tiny ugly lamp. In the small bedroom a tiny pretend antique wardrobe, and the most unpractical and tiny bedside tables. An attractive and fair sized bathroom without any space for one's necessities. It was all style of sorts without any consideration to the practical needs of the traveller. From reading some of the other reviews, management needs to improve the comfort of the rooms.
Whilst the front terrace and the common areas are quite attractive, the high prices charged for the rooms are definitely not the value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the inner courtyard are much quieter but the small windows can make them a little b...

Having originally booked for three nights, we extended our stay to eight. Arles is a wonderful city and Hotel Jules Cesar is a great hotel in a central position offering excellent services. We stayed in a deluxe room which was spotless and very comfortable with an excellent bathroom. The solid construction of this formed monastery ensure a good night's sleep! Recent renovations by Arlesien Christian Lacroix give the hotel an aesthetic edge over traditional five star hotels. Staff were fabulous - professional but relaxed and warm.

Room Tip: Try to book in advance to take advantage of special packages - and stay as long as possible.
