“Very nice old hotel with large rooms and baths”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

I was here with a tour group and our dinner and breakfast there was very good. There is a small swimming pool out back and a beautiful and peaceful inner courtyard. It is right across the street from the Roman ruins, so I feel it was an excellent starting point for our walking tour of Arles.

There is a large, but good sidewalk cafe across the street. I think it has lime green awnings. This was where I had my first of many glasses of rose on our trip !
It is not a big fancy hotel, but older and more mature. There is a small bar in the lobby, but there was not a bartender stationed there and we had to get someone from the desk to have someone come and serve us. It did get a bit lively, but that was our group !

“Arles and around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Jules César, was very well located. Rooms are basic but their garden seems nice and the main lobby as well. Employées were mostly very kind and helpful. For sure that hotel needs a renovation but if you get a good deal, you shouldn't hesitate...
You got to try their resto..The menu is a bit pricy but have to try once. it was one of best cuisine i ever ate in France.
Well Breakfast for 20chf is a bit expensive for what they propose as there are choices in arles center so i would avoid the brekfast next time.
All together Hotel is not bad for the price they propse some times..Go for it.

“Don't Stay Here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

This hotel has big issues, rooms are very poorly kept, paintwork, bed coverings and fixtures. Beds are poor quality and are fitted with rubber mattress protectors, similar to those used in hospitals. Air conditioning is turned off in autumn so if you have a warm room you stick to the bed. We rang the front desk about the air, they suggested open a window! It was one degree outside, we were one the ground floor street, needless to say no security on the window. We rigged the shutter closed with rope left the window open but by then we had a few mosquitoes in the room.
On the staff, upon arrival we booked a wake up call and taxi for the morning due to our early train neither of which eventuated. Also when we arrived the restaurant looked lovely full of guests with nice decor, we read the menu and decided to eat in house. We went for a walk came back and asked for opening times, sorry closed for a public holiday only the evening apparently. Next we thought get a drink, no bar public holiday and you guessed it no room service public holiday! Now we like a holiday but letting us know it was on would have been nice.
This hotel was a complete waste of money we could have slept in the railway station and at least had access to coffee. The staff at the railway station were as everywhere else in France wonderful.

Room Tip: If you must not ground floor and get internal facing room.

“very dissappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Although it is very centrally located, the hotel does not live up to their website or brochure
My main poins of dissappointment are the following: very old property, not renovated since a very long time, uncomfortable beds, only 1 key per room, plastic, chairs at the pool, very average breakfast buffet.

“Fantastic location, great dinners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

We were lucky enough to have room 72 - a junior suite - for two nights in October. We wanted to visit the Camargue and also Arles centre and this was the perfect location.
As has been stated by previous reviewers, the hotel is a converted convent and has its own chapel next door. Also valet parking is available - just pay for the car park part - this is great!
The decor in general is Provencal and the walls on the ground level (where we stayed) were over 3 feet thick!
Our room was huge - the bathroom was nice though it did have a shower curtain over the bath - the room is big enough to have to a separate free standing shower. We were next to the swimming pool and garden. This was very quiet and nice to wake up to.
The addition of free wifi is great - bit slow (>2 mbs) but it is free and does work through the walls.
We stayed for two nights with dinner each night. The service was fantastic, the food amazing - this is French cuisine at its best and most honest. Wine list was good - most decent wines between 25-40 euros.
Breakfast is a bit basic though on a par with many hotels including the big chains.
Recommended if you really want a good nights sleep ask for the ground floor.

Warning - market day is Saturday and the roads are closed - arrive after 2pm to make sure you can get to the hotel!

Room Tip: if can afford it, go for a junior suite on the ground floor
