This unassuming museum gives you a fascinating insight into provencale life in the early 1900s. It is an ethnographic collection gathered by Nobel Laureate Frederic Mistral who spent his Nobel money collecting anything he thought would be of interest in documenting the daily lives of people at the time. The museum is easy to miss, indeed we almost walked right past it, but luckily it caught our eye and, enticed by the extremely cheap entrance fee of only one euro (yes, you read that correctly), we decided we didn't have anything to lose. The idiosyncratic collection of clothing, tools, equipment, furniture, paintings, amulets and nativity scenes turned out to be fun to explore as well as thought provoking and was one of the most interesting things we saw in Arles. Well worth a visit if you have an hour or two to spare.
