L'ecrin in Arles was hands down the best restaurant my husband and I visited in all of Provence. The owner/chef took the time to walk us through the entire menu, explaining each dish in English. The food was exquisite--so good, in fact, that we went back for lunch the following day. It was in keeping with much of the food we had had in Provence, well-cooked, simple fish and meat, pizza. But L'ecrin's food was bursting with flavors as well, smoked chorizo, juicy sundried tomatoes. After we finished our desserts, the waitress offered us glasses of an apple liqueur on the house. The location is also excellent, right outside the Arena--definitely outdoor seating with a view. Oh, AND the meal was one of the most reasonably priced in Provence as well. Our main meals were only 13-15 euros. Had we discovered L'ecrin earlier in our trip, we might have eaten there every night!
