We ate here tonight. This is our third evening in Aix, and our 13th in France (on this trip). We had a very fine experience. We didn't make a reservation because we were traveling to Avignon today and didn't know when we'd be back. We got there around 8PM. The host asked us if we'd made reservations and I thought we'd be looking for another spot for dinner. But he was able to accommodate us outside, where we preferred.
Our dinner could not have been better, except for serving sizes. We split a lovely entrée (the French term for appetizer, the "entry" into the meal), with smoked salmon, grilled eggplant and goat cheese on a crisp lettuce salad with tomatoes and other good stuff. Even splitting, we couldn't eat it all.
And then our main courses? Hubbie had the grilled lamb, perfectly rosy medium rare with a tasty sauce, sautéed potatoes and a small salad. My main course could have fed both of us: rouget (a lovely fish) filets with big ole gambas on top, with potatoes and a sauce so tasty that the platter came with a spoon for scooping up the last of it. Too bad the French don't offer to-go containers!
With a bottle of excellent rosé wine our bill was something around 80 E, and in the two weeks we've been in France, that was about the best meal to cost ratio we've had.
