“Acceptable business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011 via mobile

This hotel has small but modern rooms with efficient air con. A bit expensive in high season and a way from centre of Aix but all things considered a reliable hotel for the business traveller

Small room. Faux wood vinyl floor. No in-room safe. Effective air conditioner in room, but after returning to room after 2.5 hours, the room smelled like excrement, literally. Turned off the air conditioning and was able to open the window. Whatever caused the odour (no, not the room occupant!) did not return when I turned the air conditioning back on several hours later. Good sized shower. Location a little far from the centre of town if on foot.

Escale Oceania was one of the few hotels showing vacancies for a visit to Aix during festival time. It was over-priced,bland, and the "chambre confort " cramped. Any suggestion that it is centrally located is inaccurate. Bus travel was quite efficient by day, but non existent after dark, with few taxis available to service a large festival population, so making the location even less desirable. It was clean but forgettable, and right by the main highway so opening a window was not advisable, nor swimming, as the noise level was unsettling. This hotel may work for people with cars who just want a bed, a free park and tours into the countryside, or as overnight 'business' guests, but it is not a good choice for the car-free visitor to the absolutely gorgeous and cultured city of Aix. Stay central if you are in the latter category, find a charming hotel, and give this one a miss.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the highway

I asked for a triple room with a sightseeing tour but they took us to a tiny room where we could barely move around. Staff were very indifferent, both in reception and bar areas.
There is no transport to the town that you have to drive to center anyway..

Very recently refurbished hotel, the rooms are large, well furnished and very clean. The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to the centre.

Nice hotel in a super town. Most of the most-visited villages in this part of Provence are within 1.5 hrs from Aix. The hotel staff made the stay particularly enjoyable. They were so accommodating! Near public transportation; free parking, for those with a vehicle. Very quiet.

I stayed one night with a friend on the recommendation of TA. After a 5 hour' drive we were pleasantly greeted by the reception staff. We had booked 2 weeks' earlier & the room rate was 60€ less than the advertised rate, excellent value. The smallish room had been recently updated and was perfect for a short stay. The bathroom was excellent with a very large shower. The toilet was located separately, a real bonus. We spent time by the pool which suffers a little from traffic noise from a nearby main road, but was clean with plenty of chairs & loungers. We didn't have breakfast as we needed to get away early. The only niggle was that it is a good 15 minute drive into the town centre which is quite difficult to find without a GPS, fortunately we had one with us.

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room away from the car park
