“Cezannes last studio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

It is very interesting to learn about how Cezanne spent his last 4 years. The studio was built specially with one wall in the workshop room all glass.

“Is it really worth going there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

After walking all the way to this attraction it was a disappointment, it gave the impression of being disorganized whilst guided tours were available there is one room that was his studio and people milling about not listening to the guide.
There was an open floor level window on one side with a sheer drop, good job we did not have young children.
The Gardens were simply overgrown and well worn paths between the trees and bushes can't think that Cezanne left them like that.
No refreshments but they were decorating a small building next to the house so maybe that is temporary.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

It is what it is - his studio. It is very low key really but the props he used in his paintings are all there, we had a talk in English and plenty of time to look around both the house and the wild but very peaceful garden.
We also visited the Jas de Bouffan his family home, again you only really get into one room because the house is in a poor state of repair but you also tour the garden and see places featured in his paintings. This year we booked for what turned out to be an absolutely excellent visit to the Bibemus Quarries.
If you want a Disney experience these are not the places for you but if you just want to go the places Cezannes went and suck up the atmosphere then you will love it.
Think you have to book at the Tourist Information office - you can't just turn up.

“Unique”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

Cezanne lived in the town and built this studio as a place to paint. How incredible that it has survived for us to see it: a row of old coats on the rack and identifiable objects on the shelf. The grey on the walls was mixed specially to be a neutral background - details like this are unique. We loved the gardens, although the trees have grown up to obscure the views.

We then walked the short distance up the hill to the Jardin des Peintures from where stunning photos of the mountain could be taken. We really enjoyed our morning, although we did not envy the coachloads of tourists arriving as we left.

“Interesting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013 via mobile

The workshop is just that, a single room that contains some of his personal effects, many of them cobbled together decades after his death by local college students seeking to preserve the building. It is interesting but can be seen in a few short minutes.
