“Nice place to stay but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I wouldn't define La Maison d'Aix a hotel. It's more an intimate place to stay, perfect if you're a couple. Everything is at hand in the nice Aix, rooms are large and clean, and the furniture is very nice. The hosters are also very warm and caring.

Nevertheless, we found two issues.

First, parking is a bit of a problem. Yes, you're in the city center so you may kind of expect this. But the hosters offered no clear solution to this nor they have agreements with any of the parking places nearby the hotel, so you're basically on your own.

Second, and most importatly, the SPA was a bit of a let down. Sure it is open 24-hours a day at your will but the Jacuzi's water is not warm and not at 29 degrees at all, but much colder. We pointed this out to the hosters who gave us confusing explanations (working in streets outside, french regulations and so on). They even offered a glass of red wine as excuses. But of course, that was not what we were expecting and they offered no discount for our complaints.

So, keep this in mind when you think of making a reservation as this "hotel" is not cheap but rather expensive.

My wife and I stayed here on our way to Nice. The Maison d'Aix is a great B&B in the centre of the town and the manager was very friendly and helpful. Our room on the top floor was perfect and beautifully appointed, but note the stairs may be a hurdle for some.

A few gripes - we stood outside ringing the bell for some minutes but no one answered and finally telephoned the hotel number - we were told the bell was not working! We reserved and had confirmed car parking but were told the hotel car park was full and we finally parked in the narrow road outside the hotel. At 400 Euros for the night, we were disappointed to see a charge for drinks added to the bill, which we did not have and in spite of promises, the charge was never reversed.

This was by far my favorite hotel that we stayed at in Provence! We were greeted by the charming house manager, Audrey and made immediately to feel at home! We were a bit nervous as no one we had spoken to on our travels had heard of this place, but our fears were immediately put to rest. It is a beautifully restored townhouse a few blocks away from the heart of Aix. Very tastefully decorated, and insanely comfortable. Just be prepared there is not an elevator, so either pack light or be prepared for a little bit of a climb. (Audrey demanded that she tote our luggage to the top, we tried to argue, but she was not hearing it!) Well worth it when you reach the top where we stayed in the gorgeous Love Suite. Audrey went out of her way to welcome us and help us book restaurants and plan our stay. She went above and beyond, even helping us move the car and feed the meter! I can not say enough about what a lovely host she was. I only wish we had stayed longer then two nights. We LOVED the breakfast. All in all, this is a hotel for travelers who seek something slightly out of the ordinary and more personal! Can't wait to visit again!!

Room Tip: The Love Suite was beautiful, but just be aware that it is on the top floor with no elevator! Your h...

My husband and I just stayed here and loved it. The space is beautiful, full of interesting art and modern finishes in all the right places. We received TERRIFIC food (go to Mitch for dinner) and museum (Jean Planque Collection) recommendations. Hotel was extremely conveniently located and would def stay there again should we come back to Aixe!

This is not a hotel by any common measure; it makes memories, sweet and forever-type memories. It is a boutique hotel with only 6 rooms. We stayed in the Love Suite, the best of the 6. Majestically appointed. A romantic vision. Every detail is finely rendered. The spa is other-worldly with a steam room and a large jacuzzi (though the water was cold, oops). We were served wine and cheese and fruit in the spa, a great touch. The service is totally personalized and truly exceptional. And the concept of creating a home, where you can select a bottle of wine or champagne from the wine cooler, or cook yourself a meal in the exquisite kitchen is brilliant. Breakfast in that incredible covered patio, wonderful. I will agree with one reviewer: the large portrait of Mao is great art, but Mao murdered more people than Hitler and Stalin combined. It's no more appropriate than having your reception area dominated by a portrait of Hitler. It made me a bit ill to have to ignore it.

We absolutely cherished and LOVED our stay at La Maison d'Aix. I hope we are fortunate enough to go back again one day in the future. From the minute we walked in for the first time, to the minute we left, our stay was like a dream. The only downside was that we wished we could have stayed longer than 3 nights!

The Hotel/Rooms: A luxurious house on a quiet street with only 4 rooms. Each room has different lay outs and designs. They are very spacious and luxurious. They kitchen is enormous and modern and the fridge is well stocked with many great bottles of local wines. In the basement is small spa that included a wading pool, steam room and a cozy area to enjoy a bottle of wine and listen to relaxing music. Great amenity to come home to after a long day of sight seeing.

Breakfast: Is amazing. Couldn't ask for anything better. Full cheese plate, fresh juices, fruits and breads.

Location: Perfect, the hotel is located on a quiet village esque street, but only blocks away from all of the sights, food, shopping and people watching of Aix.

Service: Our two hosts were Victor and Audrey. Audrey was the host for the majority of our stay. To start, when arriving, we got lost driving a couple blocks away from the hotel, Victor came and found us and drove our car to the spot we needed to be. Audrey was such a wonderful host on all fronts. She was professional and helped us with all our daily activity & restaurant reservations. Audrey prepared the most beautiful breakfasts for us every day and had cappuccinos ready for us whenever we wanted. She was the cherry on top of La Maison d'Aix!

Driving: We rented a car and parked it in the underground spot, was convenient and worth the 20 Euros a day.

We love you La Maison d'Aix .... Merci beaucoup!!

Great service, great location! Best welcome of anywhere I have stayed around the world. Tea, and a respite, arrangements made, sent for a lovely dinner.

Comfortable room overlooking a nice garden. As always, delicious croissants. Easy walk to everything!
