My husband and I stayed at La Maison de Carlotta for two nights at the end of September on our very first trip to the South of France. This quaint and lovely bed and breakfast exceeded our expectations. We had a lovely room subtly decorated in Provencal style - exactly what you would picture when thinking of this part of the world.
Aline, the hostess/owner, was lovely, warm and friendly. She made us feel very welcome and also made us an amazing breakfast each morning. She encouraged conversation between the guests one of our evenings by providing and couple bottles of wine and making everyone feel very relaxed and comfortable.
The bed was THE most comfortable, and La Maison is located a short walking distance from many shops, outdoor markets, and wonderful restaurants. Everything in the room was very clean (we even left for the day after our very first night and came back to grab something from the room, only to find Aline cleaning our bathtub already! and providing fresh towels, soap, bottled drinking water and dried fruits and nuts for a snack).
If there were any drawbacks (and I hate to even mention them because the overall experience was so wonderful, but I want to be thorough with this review) - is that the parking for your car is about a 7 minute walk from the Maison and costs 12 EUR per night. This is not outrageous, but directions for the public parking facility are not clearly explained on the website, so make sure to ask Aline for specific directions before you arrive so that you're not driving the wrong way down one-way cobblestone streets like some people :) Also, we did have a large beautiful bathroom with a tub big enough for 2, but we did have to share a toilet with the rest of the guests. Not a big deal, especially for a short stay, but you may have to take turns in the morning. Also, this is a bed and breakfast, so one shouldn't expect 100% privacy. You should expect to interact with other people staying there during breakfast (there are only 3 rooms, so it doesn't get crowded) and so if you're looking for a place to hideaway, this might not be the best option. But my husband and I enjoyed the people we met and found plenty of privacy and got lots of good sleep (the ONLY nap we had on our monthlong trip to Europe was in this comfortable bed).
Overall, we had the most lovely stay at La Maison de Carlotta. If you ever go to Aix-en-Provence, you will not be disappointed!
