Stay at this hotel if you want to spend your holiday in an industrial estate; deal with unhelpful, unfreindly staff; have one chance to have your room cleaned at 9am; get very poor wifi and stay at a place with no bar.
Oh do stay here too if you want to pick up a bit of frostbite because you will if you go for a swim in the pool. This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in - ever. Staff were a disgrace. Ignorant and rude. Location was a joke and it was too expensive.

We arrived at this hotel for our long awaited holiday in July 2010. I travelled here with my brother and sister. upon arrival we were told that we had a triple room looking over the pool ( which i had emailed months before requesting) when we were given our room key our balcony was looking over a work yard where drills were going from morning to evening time. when i approached the manager to explain the situation he said he would change our room the following morning. we arrived down to reception next morning to be told if we wanted to change it would cost 300 euro more ( we were already paying 1,000) for the room. I told the manager this wasnt on and he told me i was a liar and making things up. this was done infront of people and i was well and truely mortified. we tried to change hotels but everywhere seemed to be booked out. The pool is beyond freezing and the childs pool is empty. i would not by any means recommend this hotel to anyone.

Found good reviews on tripadvisor, so we chose this"aparthotel". Located in a business district so don't expect spectacular views.. We didn't mind though. It's so close to restaurants, cafes a Londis shop, bank/cashpoints and a Macdonalds. They're about 3 minutes by car or 15min on foot. The nearest of La Rochelle's multitude of beaches is only a mile away.
We arrived at past eleven at night & the reception closes at 22:00hrs. They left us a printed note with the number to call though. A helpful voice a the other end gave us the codes etc.
The accommodation was essentially a one bed flat. The kitchenette was cramped but fully functional. There were more than enough plates & cutlery. A four burner electric hob, a little dishwasher & fridge and microwave oven/grill combo were all there as advertised. We really liked the fact that everything looked new. Although breakfast was only Eu12:00 per adult (buffet), we just fixed our own in the flat as it was more convenient with the kids. We did our main grocery shopping at Chapion (pronounced "Shompiohn") It's like Tescos & it 's 7-8 min drive away.
There's no A/C!... but don't panic- they give you fan on request for a £20 deposit. It's bearable with the french doors open even at 28 deg C( 82deg F) but you have to be carefull if you have small kids and a balcony..
Internet was Eu20 for unlimited access for the duration of our stay. (bring your laptop..)
You get a 10% discount for The Aquarium if you buy the tickets at the hotel lobby. That way we avoided the terribly long queue at the aquarium itself.
Just loved the beaches at La Rochelle.. The best one is on the Ile de Re. I can't remember what it's called, but it's on the north western coast of the lsle. All in all a lovely stay.

One of the Topotel group, this modern apart-hotel has both apartments and hotel rooms. It serves breakfast but no other meals.

Our stay got off to a bad start – we had booked (through Locasun) an apartment with a double bedroom and a room with two single beds for the children. Instead we were given an apartment with two double beds and were told that what we had booked wasn’t available and Locasun hadn’t told the hotel what they had agreed with us. Moral: Don’t book through Locasun!

The apartment is bright and spacious with good quality furnishings though there are no wardrobes in the bedrooms and no drawers anywhere!

The kitchen has a 4-ring hob, combi-microwave, large fridge-freezer and a dishwasher. There is enough crockery/cutlery for four place settings. It is fine for breakfast or a snack but serious cooking would be a challenge!

We had a very large balcony overlooking the attractive pool area complete with table and six chairs.

The pool area is well equipped with sunbeds and is thoroughly cleaned every day. It made a nice place to relax between outings, though the pool is cold!

The immediate vicinity is not attractive; modern offices, light industry and university buildings. However, a short walk takes you to the Maritime Museum docks, past the Aquarium and on to the picturesque old harbour. The attractive Les Minimes beach is a pleasant 25 minute walk away, beside the modern marina. The nearest supermarket (Spar), bakers (and McDonalds) is 5 minutes walk away. There are loads of restaurants around the old harbour, about 10 minutes walk away.

  • Liked — The pool and accommodation is great for families and it's near to the picturesque old harbour.
  • Disliked — Didn't get room we had booked.

We were on holiday in France, and travelled down to La Rochelle. We are a family of 4 - two adults, 1 teenager, and a child.

The hotel is some way out of La Rochelle - about 10 minutes walk along the shipping channel to the town centre.

The hotel is hidden in a fairly new and faceless industrial estate. It isn't that easy to find either - look for signposts in red on your left hand side, not the right!

The hotel itself is fairly non-descript, but well kept and with plenty of parking. Reception was clean and well tended, and check-in was smooth and efficient. The receptionist spoke excellent English, and was very helpful. There is a large car park at the side of the reception, with lots of space.

Reception closes at 11pm, and you will need a pass code to get into the hotel after that time.

The apartment was TERRIFIC! It included:

- a superbly equipped kitchen (with tea and coffee making facilities!)
- a super living room with settee, table and chairs, plus a TV with satellite channels - the settee folded down into two single beds
- a huge double bedroom
- well equipped bathroom with everything working!

There was no evening food in the hotel, so we drove into La Rochelle, which is a lovely town with lots of character. A 10 minute stroll brings you through the port - very pretty - and right into the centre of the town. Well worth the walk!

Whilst in town we also bought groceries for our stay - bear in mind there was an excellent kitchen, with fridge, cooker, grill, cutlery and crockery!

Now for the one downside. On return to the hotel, the beds were rock hard - really, really uncomfortable. Points deducted :(

The hotel also has a terrific outdoors pool - ideal for the kids!

This is a really good hotel apartment, reasonably priced. If they fixed the beds I would say it was excellent. It is ideal for visiting La Rochelle and the surrounding area, I would stay here again.

PROS
- large rooms, well equipped and clean
- superbly equipped kitchen
- friendly staff
- pool

CONS
- hard beds!

The hotel is an easy taxi ride from airport. Despite it being sandwiched into no mans land between the beautiful old town and the more trendy new university town the facilities are ok, the staff friendly and whilst the pools are cold and lacking in views they are excellently equipped with clean changing area and sun beds with a kids pool and usual adult box pool.
The strange thing is there are no utensils to use the brilliantly equipped kitchen - what do you put into a dishwasher when there are NO plates or cutlery[or cork screw}? No DVD player and only CNN as an English speaking option on TV.
Yet - we enjoyed it,. Its quiet, there are two rooms in the apartment so the 2 kids settled easily. It was a ten minute walk to a decent coffee shop, wine shop and the 2 minute boat ride to the old town - maybe a 25 minute walk down to the beach at the marina and supermarket. McDonalds is at the university say 10 mins walk away but not on the way to do anything else.
The seafood restaurants in the old town are great as is the Market and walking round the pedestrianized area is a pleasure. Great family weekend.
