I just got back from a 5 night stay at Blue Star Dive Resort in Anda, Bohol. Now that I am back to the hustle and bustle of Manila, I find myself suffering from "Anda withdrawal".
I am a retiree and spend a lot of time travelling around the Philippines. In the past I have been to Panglao, Bohol --the more popular destination in Bohol so when I chanced on Anda, Bohol, I was pleasantly surprised by this yet to be discovered STAR in Bohol.
Anda is around 100 kilometers from Tagbilaran , Bohol where the airport is. There are buses, vans or private cars that can bring you to Anda ( P100 by bus or P 130 by van). From the airport, you take a tricycle ride to the bus terminal for P40-P50.
Anda has the same pristine white beaches that Panglao, Bohol has sans the usual tourist crowd in the latter which makes Anda worth the extra 100 kilometer land trip. The main attraction of Anda, like Panglao, is its dive areas. Not being a diver, I thought I would not have enough to do in Anda for 5 days. I was proven wrong because aside from its diving spots, Anda has other attractions like Lumanoc Island, Anda Falls, dolphin watching etc...And for a photography enthusiast like myself, the beauty of the place was enough to keep me occupied for 5 days catching the glorious sunsets and sunrises from Blue Star Dive Resort which is perched on top of a cliff giving one a panoramic view of the sea. I was happy just enjoying the beautiful view from the resort's restaurant while keeping abreast with Facebook and the news via internet from a laptop. Yes, the resort has WIFI facilities which allowed me to be in touch with the rest of the world while happy in the solitude that the resort offered. Unlike others, a vacation for me means "doing nothing" since I am not one who is into sports and other activities, I am happy just reading a book and taking photographs while enjoying the beautiful surroundings and view from Blue Star.
I would catch the sunrises and start my day with brewed coffee that would put Starbucks to shame. The coffee was not only excellent, the food was too. Lunch and dinner was always varied, fresh, the servings not only ample but generous ( actually too generous for my capacity) and always served warm and freshly cooked. Since I am not the very active type, I did not get to enjoy the other facilities of the resort like the swimming pool, jacuzzi, massage, badminton and volleyball court, billiards, mountain bikes and the fully equipped diving facilities. The resort also has kayaks, 3 large boats and speedboat for water skiing.
I stayed in one of the air conditioned garden rooms of the resort which was huge ( the sleeping area and bathroom), had a mini bar, television, coffee and tea service, room safe. a balcony where one can sit and read---all the amenities of a 5 star resort. The room and the entire resort was VERY CLEAN. As a matter of fact, the gardener was always sweeping the fallen leaves of the trees and the flowers the bouganvilla plants. The sight of the flowers and leaves strewn grounds actually added to the charm of the place and reminded me of autumn (my favorite season).
There was one morning when we were treated to the sight of dolphins swimming in the horizon.
The staff of the resort were very friendly and helpful without imposing on one's privacy. When I would meet any of them, they always greet you by name saying good morning or good night.
The public beach of Anda, which is a short ride away from the resort, has white sand and pristine waters and you have an unobstructed view of the sea for several kilometers. The Municipal government of Anda does a good job of keeping the place clean. They even operate a restaurant with good food.
When I find myself longing for the peace, serenity and beauty of Anda and the Blue Star Dive Resort, I transport myself to the place by looking through the 600 or more photos I took during my 5 day stay there.
Truely, Blue Star Dive Resort in Anda, Bohol is an undiscovered STAR in the Philippines and one of the most beautiful places I have been to in the Philippines and I can honestly say that I have been to most of the beautiful spots of the Philippines. If you want peace, quiet and beautiful surroundings, I highly recommend Anda, Bohol and the Blue Start Dive Resort.
Words cannot adequately describe the beauty of the place. Too see and to experience the place is to believe.
Those on a budget can avail of the "Backpackers Rooms".
