“Lovely stay at the great little hotel - and we are returning soon!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2010

I stayed at this hotel recently with my father. I was a bit wary having read previous reviews about street facing rooms. I need not have worried as since both my father and I both ended up with street facing rooms, I had one of the best nights sleep for a long time. At the time of our stay, the hotel foyer was being redecorated and will be of a high standard when finished (the starcase still had to be re-painted and the carpet laid). Nonetheless, the rooms were excellent, very clean and bright. Check in was very fast and the young woman receptionist very polite, efficient and had an excellent command of English. Breakfast was very nice with the usual freshly baked croissants, local cheese and cereals. All in all, very tasty and plentiful.
The loction of the hotel is excellent with all amenities and restaurants only a short walk away. The hotel has a nice little secure car park for 4euros a night..well worth it.
As the title says, we are returning in a couple of weeks to this nice and welcoming hotel.

Wonderful, welcoming hotel in a great central location. The staff were very friendly and recommended great restaurants for dinner. A lot of thought went into the decor of the rooms, and we loved the doors that opened onto a small private balcony overlooking the street. This hotel was our favorite of the several we stayed on our trip through the Loire Valley and we would go out of our way to stay here again if back in the region.

We stayed here for 1 night end of July, very reasonable rate of 70 euros, I wasn't quite sure what we would get for this money. We were very surprised, we had room no.2, a lovely decorated and furnished room with air conditioning, overlooked the back with no view but was quiet. Very pleasant owners, we also took breakfast which was good value, and good choice. The hotel seemed to very popular with British tourists. The hotel is very central, and Saumur is a nice place to visit, do some wine tasting at the Tourist Info. office. Lots of places to eat, we went to Cafe de la Place recommended by the hotel. However if you choose the set menu be sure to say so when you order else they will charge you the a la carte prices! However we managed to resolve it.

Had high hopes of this hotel after reading other reviews, so was surprised to find the Londres very basic and lacking the 'charm' people talk about. Our room was very tatty, dirty carpets and chipped paint. We were facing the road, the rue d'Orléans, and believe me it is anything but quiet. Very noisy and hot all night. Breakfast was simple but ok, and the staff were all friendly, however. All in all not the start to the holiday we had hoped for, not a terrible hotel by any means, but you get what you pay for. Don't let the creative photography raise your hopes too much...

This hotel is truly a gem in the heart of the Loire Valley. We enjoyed pretty much everything about this place. The rooms were spacious, clean and quiet (aside from the odd moped whizzing by when we opened our windows at night).

Staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions about places to go and restaurants to eat at. Breakfast was good value - food was fresh and plentiful.

Saumur doesn't have a whole lot to offer the tourist but enough for a day or two. If you're planning on staying in town for a few nights this is an excellent choice. However, be aware that there is no elevator and the reception desk and rooms are in the 2nd and 3rd floors.

what a charming hotel bang in the centre of Saumur! a great find, fantastically done up by the friendly owner, welcoming, spotless and great value, a real taste of France.
we were in a newly decorated room which was stylish and bright, other rooms have a Tin Tin theme or comics, some are traditional French in style. Breakfast is served in a lovely room with exposed beams.
the owner was very helpful and friendly and clearly loves his job. with the beautiful furniture and chandeliers and humorous touches this place is a bargain for the price and worth every euro.
would definitely come again.
for once the pictures and descriptions on its own website are spot on and a real reflection of what is in store here.
as a quick stopover or as a base for the Loire its a must.

OK it's cheap at £45 a night but you get what you pay for. The staff were very pleasant and helpful advising on restaurants etc. The room was basically clean and tidy and centrally located. That's the good points.
On the other hand it wasn't exactly a relaxing experience, our room overlooked the Rue d'Orlean and there was a constant noisy queue of traffic for the nearby lights. The walls of the rooms were extremely thin, which meant that we could hear everything our neighbour did from watching TV all night to using the bathroom. Some of the room doors had to be closed with the key, as there were no handles and people, therefore, slammed them shut causing all the other doors to rattle.
The shower cubicle was so small that at 5ft 11in I couldn't wash my feet and was only accessible if you slid in sideways. Plus it was 9 inches off the ground and presented a serious health and safety risk, as there was nothing to hold onto as you exited.
It gives me no pleasure to have to write such a review as the owners were extremely nice people. However, if Trip Advisor is to be a useful source of information then I feel that these details need hightlighting. Needless to say we won't staying there again. I can recommend the Adagio, where we stayed last year, which is about £20 an night more expensive, but well worth it!
