“Nice historic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed here 2 nights during our driving tour through the Loire Valley. Location is excellent, on the Loire and just beneath the Saumur Chateau. The room was fine; the towels could have been plusher though. The staff was exceptionally friendly. Very relaxing shaded garden courtyard in back for just sitting and having a drink perhaps. Small, easy to reach ground level parking lot in back of hotel, 12 euros a night.
The restaurant at the back of the hotel courtyard, Les Menestrels, was excellent and would advise dining there.

At the bottom of the castle and on the side of the Loire river , this beautiful hotel is set in a piece of history in a most historical city . Reception is friendly, the hotel decoration is all art and history and the rooms are nice and comfortable with a good wifi connection . The main stairway and the ceiling are like a visit in a museum .
Breakfast was excellent , and in summer time will be served in a very pretty garden .
My room was facing the river , a quiet and relaxing view , very quiet at night though a large road goes along the river side . Other room have a view on the castle that is just above the hotel .
I was there on a business trip , but I would really recommend this hotel for tourist visiting the Loire régions and the pretty city of Saumur

We were here for 3 nights in a very large dormer room. The best was having a view of the chateau from the room, especially at night when it was bathed in light. Within minutes you can walk to the chateau and tour it or walk to the colorful town and some great restaurants. The hotel itself has been restored to a beautiful condition. The grounds of the hotel have chairs and tales where one can relax with a drink at the end of the day. The onsite restaurant is colorful with great food. This hotel has it all.

Room Tip: for the best view request a room with a view of the chateau .

We stayed here while touring France for 12 days. Our room was a large, clean attic room with timbered ceiling, and antique furniture. The 2 dormer windows graced us with a beautiful view of the castle or chateau all lighted up at night. We also had a fan in the room if needed. The commode was separate from the bathroom. The breakfast room had plenty for breakfast. You could poach your egg if desired, and the breads offered were superb. The staff were friendly and helpful. One woman in particular, I cannot remember her name, gave us glasses for the wine we bought. She also gave us small appetizers. Small touches are always remembered. This historical mansion is the perfect location, close to good restaurants and shopping. I will have to compliment the fast, large elevator, too. The outside garden and terrace are wonderful.

This is a wonderful hotel, with the castle behind it and the Loire River in front. It is a 5 minute walk to town with shopping and restaurants..Rooms vary greatly in size and degree of renovation. We had a river facing room that had original walls and was beautiful. There is no air conditioning but there is a fan and we were comfortable. There is a wonderful breakfast served and it is beautifully prepared. There is no restaurant in the hotel but there is a restaurant adjoining the property.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been restored to its original look.

What a great location. The Hotel is in a historic 18th century building at the foot of the Chateau of Saumur and overlooks the Loire and is a few minutes walk from the centre of Saumur where there ware some good restaurants.
The staff were so welcoming and helpful.
Room was good and overlooked the hotel's picturesque and quiet courtyard with views of the Chateaux where breakfast was served.
Rooms do not have aircon if that is a problem for you, although we were there in June it wasn't as issue we had the windows open.
No restaurant in the hotel but a superb one in the gardens called Le Menestrelle.

Room Tip: I'd choose a room on the second floor overlooking the courtyard but it s a matter of choice. Tho...

We stayed at this hotel for two nights while doing a cycling tour through the Loire Valley. It was a joy to arrive after a 40 km ride to such pleasant surroundings. The rear garden is a quiet space to relax. Staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. We dined at the partner restaurant one evening - this was an exceptional experience and well worth combining the two facilities for your stay. Sadly I don't have its name.

Room Tip: A room not facing the Loire River as this will be quieter
