My wife and I decided to give L'Aromate a chance on a whim. We arrived with no reservation slightly after prime dining time with no reservation. This was not a problem and we were accommodated with no fuss. The staff was more than happy to see us. We had a wonderful view of the kitchen staff at work and sat back to make our choices and enjoy the modern, but welcoming surrounds with a glass of Saumur sparkling. In terms of pricing, dining a la carte can prove more expensive than the Menu A Formule options. We were feeling opulent and opted for the 4 course option. Variety across all four was excellent and portion size did not seem to diminish based on our decision to go for the set menu. Suffice to say we were both on our way to loosening belt notches by the time cheese arrived. My wife enjoyed her dinner so much, she told the waiting staff that she wanted to kiss the chef. They duly told him. As we were sitting on the other side of the glass from him, could see him blush. I would highly recommend L'Aromate. While it is a slight meander away from the heart of Saumur, it is worth the effort. They have purposely set themselves apart from the local competition with their interior and menu choices. And I am pretty sure the maitre d' is David Bowie, if not his long lost twin.
