“Very nice, low key, good cooking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014 via mobile

On the island so about 10mins walk from the town centre. Only about ten tables so best to book. Very good food. Local menus, well executed and nicely presented. Very good value set menu which covers about half of the a la carte options. Good list of local wines. Homely feel.... like eating in someone's living room. So no need to dress up too much.

“Regal Cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014

Hidden away from the town on an island is this little gem. Run by a husband and wife the food is quite special. and varies with the seasons. Its my 10th visit and I've never been disappointed. They do a fixed price menu as well as a full service.
The calves kidneys are to die for and the fish is always local fresh and cooked to a high standard.
Limited but well chosen wine list and a warm welcome from start to finish.

“Loved this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

We were directed here by the front desk at our hotel and were very appreciative indeed.

La Reine de Sicile is family owned and operated. Their pride shows through in the way they treat guests and by the quality of the food.

We enjoyed every bit of it, but when the cheese cart was wheeled to our table, we were overwhelmed by the aroma, variety and beauty of the various cheeses. As a sidenote, what we eat in the USA isn't really cheese, it's more like candle wax. France! They have cheese.

My date actually cried over the delicious flavors (she only does that over the very best experiences with food and wine). The food was delicious, the wine was superb, the service was excellent. It was romantic. Perfect.

We loved every bit of our dining experience here. We hope to be back.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

We had a superb 3 course set menu meal here on our last night in Saumur. Everything was beautifully presented and the food was delicious. Definitely fine dining. The place is small and cosy and the ideal place for a special meal. Very good service and good value.

“Another great Saumur dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

We ended up dining here by default. It had been near the top of my list of places to try in Saumur but with just a two night stay in the town we kept finding that the places nearer the top of the list did not open on a Wednesday night. During our stroll around the town in the daytime we crossed the river and discovered that La Reine de Sicile would be quite a long walk to do in the evening from our hotel. We dismissed it and went on looking. Eventually because of the shut- on-Wednesday problem we returned to our hotel, phoned to book a table at La Reine de Sicile and decided we would have to take a cab. We were very pleased to have made that decision. Having dined at Alchimiste the previous evening we knew that was going to be a hard act to follow but here was another chef producing super food at the most amazing prices. The restaurant had a lively buzz about it, the service is correct and friendly and when we left I couldn't resist calling through to the chef to say how much we had enjoyed his efforts.
