“Good value for money, superbly situated”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

Hotel Astoria is superbly located at least for those who travel by train (or plane) since it is immediately opposite the station in Nantes (though you have to look closely; it doesn't have a large sign ooutside unlike the Hotel Terminus right next to it). It is within easy walking distance of all the main sites. It is also very quiet and the bedrooms are tastefully (if someitmes quirkily) designed. The breakfast was ordinary and on the expensive side.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the newly renovated rooms that look on to the courtyard or street at the back of the...

This hotel could not have been in a better, more convenient position. The Railway Station was within easy walking distance; there was a tram stop a few metres up the road (to the left on leaving the front door) and, when walking to the right, one reached the castle, the Information Bureau and the old town. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Full marks to them. The room was spotlessly clean. The bathroom/loo was situated behind a frosted glass which up some rather strange shadows at times. The Breakfast (at nine euros forty cents) was a fair price. It was quite sufficient with fruit, yoghurt, toast with jams and honey, cakes and croissants, cereals, hard-boiled eggs, ham and cheese. All in all, this was very good and I would certainly stay here again when visiting Nantes.

Room Tip: our room overlooked the side street and was quiet (apart from the day the dustbins were cleared)

I think as a tourist certain things should be available
1. Coffee facility in the room
2. At least one english channel (CNN)
3. A small bar for alate drink

This hotel had none of these, so a very nice hotel with those little points missing.

We literally booked this hotel about 10 mins before arriving (using wifi from another hotel that was full..how bold of us :-) ) Check in female staff was very helpful and very effecient considering she was just printing off our late booking. We had 4 motorcycles so was easy to accomodate in locked garage at back of hotel.....but may be tight if you had a car and hotel was busy.
The hotel has some newly decorated rooms and some older rooms, you have to pay more for the new rooms. Rooms were the usual standard small versions (we actually found it very tight as we had a twin room for 2 adults with full motorcycle gear) The renovated room we had a distorted glass wall for the bathroom wall, very mod....if you like it. We actally had a problem not being able to switch off the water in the bath/shower, we obviously were not the only people who experienced this as there was a loose tile under bath that gave us access to the water valve. we reported it to reception but it was late and nothing was done by time we checked out...no big deal for us.
Location was excellent for the short walk into centre of town, approx 8 minute walk, even walking back at 11.30pm on a saturday we felt safe as there was plenty of people on the streets.
As the location is oppisate the train station, you can expect to see the usual cardboard boxes homes set up in the doorways close by, but we did not encounter any hassle at all.
Strangly enough our garmin gps took us to the parking garage behind the hotel rather than front door, i think this may be one of the renovations (moving the entrance)
Breakfast was extra 9euro and was worth it if you need to fill up before heading off. There is a nice courtyard within the hotel if you are a smoker.
I would recommend this hotel again, we were defo lucky with the parking though, not sure how parking is if garage full (there was on street parking at back of hotel but always appeared full when we walked past)

Room Tip: at the time we stayed, there was new and older rooms. newer rooms did cost slightly more.

great staff.friendly from the off.very accommodating as we have a young baby.great shower.hotel getting renovated at the moment, but no disruption to our stay.parking is plentiful in surrounding area but 2 hrs limit between 9-7 so id advise parking in train station across the road.
All in all well priced and located

This small hotel is in front of the train station and of the Airport Shuttle stop. You can barely see the entrance, as it's buried in the middle of two other hotels.
Nice location, but rather old property. They are renovating some floors, so you may find it changed in the next months. At the moment, rooms and bathrooms are old and smelly. The elevator is extremely small.
