Some background...we stayed for 3 weekend nights on a 3 for the price of 2 deal.

Location very central - close to Chateau de Ducs and Musee des Beaux Arts.
The 4 rooms that I saw were definitely not modern. The first room we were shown was a twin with the single beds pushed together. We sat in it for a few minutes before deciding that it would be too depressing to spend any more time in it, and asked for a change. A little attempt at modernisation, some mirrors, lighting or paintings would go a long way.
The second room I saw was better (a double bed) but had only a half-bath.
The 3rd room had a full bath, and was the one we eventually ended in. The bathroom suite was a green colour which gives some indication of the age of it !
However, the staff are helpful, the place is clean, and there is a good range of breakfast on offer.
The lesson learned is that 3 star means different things in different countries. If this was an hotel in Paris, I would understand, but Nantes is a provincial capital and we expected more.

Overall, I think it's worth a 2 rather than a 3-star rating. You couldn't beat the location, halfway between the railway station and the town and the staff were nice but the room we had was pokey and the disinfectant used in the bathroom made it unbearable to keep the door open. A restaurant right next door is well worth going to.

This hotel was very nice, it was an old building just renoved (april-may 2003), rooms were clean, not huge but good size,my mother (83 years old) had no problem going around the room, nice bathrobes and good excellent shower gel, we were downstairs with a terrasse, 2 chairs and a table and a lot of flowers (beginning of May). My sister was upstairs with a nice view on the castle, on a main street but still quiet, not far from the restaurants, bars, shops and train station, the tramway was down the street (500 yards) going anywhere we wanted. The best value was the breakfast, really everything : yoghurt, pastries, cheese, juices, bread a lot of everything in your bedroom or in the breakfast room. I will definetely return to this hotel and the managers were young and very nice.
