“Perfectly alright”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2011

Very central (though our sat nav got very confused!) but our room was quiet, despite overlooking the street. Friendly English speaking staff, comfy bed, clean throughout. We were very pleased to be offered an organic breakfast. Good value.

We liked this little hotel right in the middle of town. The do not have their own parking but we were lucky and found a spot very near. Breatfast was ok (french style).
the room was small but got all that we needed. The value was great and as it was in the middle of town we had shopping malls just outside the door. Wifi was not working very well however.

Room Tip: We had room towards the back and it was quite enough to sleep well

We stayed here for five days while visiting our daughter during her study abroad. The hotel is small, maybe 20 rooms or so, on a smaller street right in the downtown shopping area. It is located one block from the main shopping plaza, and in the surrounding area there are numerous restaurants, bakeries, and shops. It is an easy ten minute walk from the train station, and within easy walking distance of all the downtown tourist attractions.

The hotel is triangular in shape (see photo), like the Flatiron Building in NYC, and we had a room in the pointed corner on the second floor (actually the third floor, the custom in France is that the ground floor is not numbered.) We had two large French doors and small balconies, so there was great airflow and a nice breeze most days. The doors were well-insulated against noise, so closing them at night shut out all the street noises. The room itself was typical of French hotel rooms, in that it was just large enough for the bed and a small desk and our suitcases. It did have an attached bathroom with a tub and shower, though the shower needed a curtain to prevent water from spraying all over.

The hotel breakfast was excellent -- good brewed coffee (and plenty of it), fresh baguettes and pain du chocolate, cheese, ham, Nutella (of course), fresh jams and butter, fruit, and other small pastries and rolls. The breakfast room is on the ground floor with plenty of windows and a great view of the street, and it's a pretty spot to enjoy breakfast and people-watching.

The staff were accommodating, friendly, and helpful. Like anywhere in France outside the major tourist areas, not many people in Angers are fluent in English, but they were willing to put up with my poor French and communication all worked out in the end.

Room Tip: We had a Double Harmonie room

This no-frills hotel is conveniently situated in the historic center of Angers, within walking distance to all attractions, the conference centre and the university. It is also only a short walk away from the train station. The rooms are very simple, but clean, comfortable and quiet. There is a reasonably good buffet breakfast (and correctly priced), mostly consisting of organic products in accordance to the hotel's commitment to reducing its ecological footprint. There is free WiFi available.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2010

I stayed in this Hotel on 10th - 12th June together with my Husband and my Father. I booked a double room for my Husband & myself and the only available room for my Father was also a double room. To be honest it was alittle expensive at €225 (incl. Taxes) for 3 nights and this was without breakfast and my Father paid the same amount, which is obviously worse when there is just one person in the room. We needed to stay in this particular area so we just took what was available at the time. However, we found the hotel to be located in a convenient part of town. The Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice and adequate to our needs, the bed was nicely turned out and everywhere was clean. Unfortunately our room was a little noisy because our room looked out onto the front street so we kept the window closed and switched on the air conditioning. However, my Dad experienced the opposite to us because his room was on the other side of the Hotel so he thought it was very quiet. We did not have breakfast here, but if you choose to do so, it costs €9. In conclusion it did seem alittle expensive especially when we compared it to what our friends paid in their Hotel which included breakfast (they stayed in the All Seasons Hotel), but nonetheless we really enjoyed our stay, it was very pleasant and at the end of the day that is what matters.

I have visited this hotel several times and suggested this for my students staying in Angers. It's location is fabulous and the breakfast is great with the best croissants in Angers. Staff on reception are very helpful and obliging. I will definately be returning to the Continental for years to come as it is my number one stay in Angers.
