“Well located, otherwise just average, not good, not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

Centrally located hotel which is for sure its major asset. Rooms are smallish and even though clean and modern looking the room interior is not exceptionally thrilling, just basic (even though I had a so called 'privilege' room which looks just like any other average hotel room). Mattress was ok but bed was small.

Breakfast is disappointing (considered the cost of 15 or so Euro) - scrambled eggs were so tasteless and presumably made from out-of-the box egg mix or whatever; very disappointing to start the day. Bread in France should be crispy and fresh but the bread rolls were quite chewy. Other food stuff was fine and fresh including the fresh cooled oranges and juicer provided in the breakfast room.

Quite a few good pubs very close by the hotel.
Public transport (tramway) right in front of the hotel.

Room Tip: Scrambled eggs at breakfast were tasteless - do not even bother trying but go straight for a freshly...

The Mercure Centre Foch is pretty much like any Mercure anywhere and at first glance doesn't exactly look thrilling - an average post-war block on a busy-ish road. But inside it's clean and modern and the staff are really welcoming.

We went for a Privilege room, although to be honest it didn't offer anything more than a normal room you'd get in any other 4-star hotel. It was big enough and there was room in the bathroom to swing a cat so I can only imagine that non-Privilege rooms are smaller. Some common areas look a bit worn and tired but our bedroom was smart and clean and although it faced the main road and the tramline, we were never disturbed at night.

Maid service was one of the weakest we'd experienced in years. Yes, the room was cleaned but they missed simple things like remembering to top up the loo roll, replacing cups and mugs we used, plumping pillows properly and replacing tea and coffee for the Nespresso machine. It's these little touches that make the difference.

The linked Joe Carpa restaurant and bar was really popular and when we ate there the food was good. We didn't take breakfast at the hotel, preferring a croissant and coffee in local cafes instead.

The location of the hotel is great - right near the centre of town and about 10-15 minutes walk to the chateau and cathedral.

I'm rating this 3 simply based on value for money. The hotel is good but it's too expensive for what you get.

The hotel is right on the edge of the town centre and now has a tram stop outside it too. The staff are always very friendly and helpful, but on several occassions I have had to request teabags, mug, writing paper etc as these have not always been provided in the room. Otherwise very good value for money and always clean.

We stayed for two nights. Great base for walking from to see the city. Close to loads of resturants.

If you are driving you are best to park on the ralliments car park which is signposted down the road next to the hotel. The hotel give you a 2 euro ticket for this car park if you ask for it. Two days parking here cost 17 euro.

Geat location. Hotel was up to expectations, clean, quiet and receptionist was efficient and friendly. Rooms a reasonable size. Tea making facilities in room. Independant attached restaurant was really good. Angers is a lovely town, bustling and lively. But watch where you walk. There are obviously a lot of dogs in Angers.

We stayed at the Mercure Centre Foch for two nights. Our stay was pleasant and the hotel was clean. We actually had a very good night sleep the first night. The hotel is close to a plaza with nice restaurants. I would recommend this place for short stays.
