“Another great visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2011

This was our fifth stay in the B&B at Le Mortier. Unfortunately we could only stay one night this time, but, as always, were made very welcome. We favour the upstairs twin as it has a little more room but mind your head at the top of the stairs! It is quite self contained with modern ensuite and fridge, if you need it. The location is extremely quiet, being in the middle of the countryside. As usual, we booked an evening meal, prepared by Peter, and as always, were treated to a fantastic three course dinner accompanied by generous quantities of local wines. The continental breakfast never disappoints with a wide choice but one can hardly do it justice after the previous evening's meal! Joan and Peter are always very helpful and ensure an enjoyable stay. We have used Le Mortier as a staging post en route to other parts of France (or Spain) and used it as a base for exploring the Loire and its many chateaux. It is highly recommended for either purpose.

We were made very welcome and introduced to our room (we stayed in B&B, not gite). Joan and Peter could not be more accomodating and offered us the use of crockery as we were having a snack rather than a meal. The hot tub was lovely with a glass of wine (well plastic glass really) watching the ponies in the field. Lovely countryside, quiet and very relaxing. Would definately recommend this to anyone. Thanks to Joan and Peter

Stayed with Loire affair where UK hosts are apparently living the British dream, except for sanitary problems, it seems. On arrival we had a rather graphic description of what may go into Saniflow system, on top of no less than two written notices on and around area of crime. Kitchen was rather septic as well, and on requesting clean dishcloths was told that a two day stay doesn't warrant such luxury - luckily we qualified for clean bedlinen which was wonderfully soft and inviting. The towels, however, we were not quite so sure of. To their credit, they were quite accommodating on our cancellation of our pre-booked dinner with them, as at this stage we lost all appetite for such an affair. We won't be visiting again, as we spent 4 preceding evenings with family run hotel in Concarneau and French-owned B&B in Cancale respectively, which were both fresher, friendlier and more reasonably priced. If, however, electrified paddocks is your cup of tea, go for it! Just make sure the sanitation system is up and running, as they're adding another gite.

Room Tip: 30 mins drive from Loire river, country setting

Our studio gite does have a toilet macerator, which does work perfectly, but certain items must not be flushed to avoid breakdown. We do live in the country and our ponies are kept in via electric fences, which although give you a jolt are not dangerous. We endeavour to offer our guests a warm welcome and every care and are sorry when this does not seem to be fulfilled.
We have customers that return annually and our dinners together are spoken of most highly, as it is a time to get to know new people.

Spent a lovely 3 nights lounging here. Peter and Joan were most welcoming and friendly and really looked after us well. Breakfast was delicious and the evening meals were just WOW! Peter and Joan were great company and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay (including the wine).

This was almost the end of a two and a half week motorbike trip for us, so it was just perfect as somewhere to relax and unwind before heading off home.

The pool is great, the jacuzzi very relaxing and the food even better. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here and we will definitely go back. Probably stay in the lovely little gite next time.
