“Lovely old building with modern facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

I stayed here twice in the space of a month and both visits were good. Reception staff were excellent, very friendly and check-in process was fast and efficient despite several of us arriving at once.
Conveniently located for the main square of the town and then the old town is a short stroll from there.
Breakfast was good - breads, pastries, ham, cheeses, eggs, sausages, cereals and fruits.

Great combination of lovely old building with lots of character but with rooms that have most definitely been refurbished not so long ago in a style that compliments the building.

Standard bedrooms have all that you need, are comfortable bit are perhaps on the small side. I stayed in superior rooms though which were more spacious and just felt more relaxing. Very comfortable beds!
As you would expect from a French hotel, the only English speaking channel was BBC World.

The one thing that lets this hotel down is the bar area. A couple of sofas and few chairs and we had to go looking for someone to serve us even though they have a motion sensor to alert them to people arriving. Not to worry though, there are plenty of cafe/bars within easy walking distance.

Room Tip: It is worth paying the extra for a superior room. Ask for 421 if you like circular rooms/high ceili...

All a bit wierd. We also felt we were alone in this cavernous building.
But excellent and friendly reception and everything works.
At €150, this is definitely NOT worth it, but at promotional rates of €60-70, good value.

The hotel was clean and tidy but felt as if it was put to sleep. We arrived at 9:38 on a Sunday night and was told that food stopped at 9:30 however they managed to provide us with two very nice plates of meat, cheese and fish.
We got the feeling that we were the only guests in the hotel next morning for breakfast there was a little bit of bacon , some burnt black sausages a tiny bit of scrambled egg and the usual ham, cheese etc.
I can't see why this hotel is a Mercure it's far closer to an Ibis.
It must be good for the motor race events but at other times I personally will give it a pass in future.

I stumbled across this hotel on a very wet night and what a surprise it is . The interior is a mix of older classic style with quality modern upgrades . You could either eat in the bar area or have room service ( which was good quality - at a price ) Location of the hotel is just right for the town center and the underground garage means you don't have to worry about unloading your car / bike .

I would go back again !

This hotel provides a convenient location for access to the old town. Parking is OK - but you need to be aware of the one-way system!
Our room was a reasonable size with a good standard of decor in dark orange, dark brown and cream. A highlight was the proper coffee maker.
Our request for more hangers (the wardrobe started with three between us) received a speedy response. Afterwards we had adequate hanging and shelf space.
The bathroom was clean and white with a shower over the bath.
Breakfast was buffet style with a reasonable selection, but nothing noteworthy.

We generally stay at this hotel in the week of the Le Mans 24 Hour race when it is extremely busy although the service always remains impeccable and the staff polite. It was therefore interesting to do a one-nighter as tourists when passing through the town en route to Bordeaux.

As one reviewer has pointed out, it offers good, clean and comfortable accommodation. The rooms may not be the largest in the world but for a place to stop and sleep, it is more than adequate. The hotel does not offer any meals other than breakfast but just a short walk away are a number of good restaurants including one called La Tagliatelle which does magnificently tasty pizzas. One of the major plus sides to the hotel is the underground car park which offers security while also deleting the hassle of needing to move the car to avoid parking tickets.

Only a five minute walk to the start of the main shopping area and a little over ten minutes into the medieval heart of the city. So, a perfect city centre hotel? Well, up to a point. Not the easiest of places to find and, being so close into the centre, the roads and side streets can get pretty busy. On the other hand the hotel does boast private parking so if you can't find a cost-free space on the adjacent street you do have the fall-back of either parking in the hotel's courtyard or paying for the secure underground parking in the adjacent block. A bit of a hike, from the rail station. It must also be remembered that the hotel does not have its own restaurant so eating out is the only option. (The restaurant around the corner may be good but it is pretty pricey and certainly no good for 'family eating'.)

So that is the down-side, now the good bits.

Actual location near to the main city centres is the real attraction. The building is a tastefully converted old-style financial building complete with imposing corner entrance and sweeping stone staircase. It has real elegance and is very impressive. The rooms are not large but certainly adequate especially as they have large windows flooding the space with light. Air conditioning is effective and the windows do open if you prefer natural ventilation. Bathrooms are well appointed with a shower-over-bath system. Plenty of clothes storage space. Coffee and tea facilities in every room. Very comfortable bed and pillows. No fridge or mini-bar but room service available without over-charging. Had the feeling that this is a well kept, very clean hotel where management is on the ball. Breakfast fairly expensive but quite reasonable value as a wide range of food and drink is available. Easy walking to numerous restaurants, bistros, bars, etc.

A couple of further points:- A Super U 'Express' store is only a few minutes walk away as is a fully stocked chemist, so essentials are close at hand. Hotel staff speak excellent English and are most helpful at dealing with queries or tourist advice.

Would certainly stay here again, but only if I could get one of the frequent internet booking price deals as the full 'rack-rate' is pretty steep.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the courtyard rather than the street to avoid traffic noise with your...
