“Just perfect...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2007

We booked a full package including ferry travel with Brittany Ferries as it worked out cheaper than dealing direct with P&V.

When you're trying to find the property, keep along the main St. Nazaire road & take the turn for road No. 171 & follow the signs... it will take you to the complex much quicker than getting lost in the centre of La Baule (trust me on this!!). If you arrive on a Sunday morning, 99% of all supermarkets are closed, but there is a Shopi open in the centre of La Guerande from 9-12 so you can stock up on essentials.

The complex itself is set in a gorgeous landscaped park, surrounded by mature trees & planting, with plenty of car parking available (all payable... no free parking on site). We were in Le Pins block which is also where the Reception area is located & very close to the pedestrian access gates. Our 1 bed apartment was clean & very comfortable, equipped with everything you need for your stay incl. a cleaning kit with dishwater tablets, teatowels etc., with a balcony overlooking the central green area. Your apartment is NOT serviced during your stay & you must clean the kitchen area & all crockery before you leave, so bear this in mind re. sheets & towels etc. There is a self-service laundry in one of the other blocks (€6 for washing machine incl. detergent & €3 for the tumbledryer).

There are two large pools & a kids splash pool - the lower pool is heated to about 24 degrees & the other one to 18-19. There's plenty of sun loungers & mats, and some umbrellas, all free of charge.

You're located between La Baule & Pornichet - a good 20 minutes walk to either along the lovely seafront, so we rented bikes at reception to get us around in the evening. Pornichet was more laid back with a few nice bars for watching "Le Rugby" - especially La Terrasse opposite the train station - also a good few nice restaurants close by incl. the Thai & Italian places.

Within walking distance is the Pen Duick Bar/Creperie, a few beach bars and a gorgeous restaurant called La Grain de Folie towards Pornichet.

We had a fantastic holiday (good weather always helps!!) and would love to go back!

A good holiday (with 5 year old). Good standard of accommodation, although only three of us we needed an apartment for 6 to give some breathing space, with friendly and helpful staff. Good pool.
Excellent beach 5 mins. walk from apartment.
Booked with Brittany Ferries – no problems.

Would go again.

We stayed at P&V R, La Baule in the middle of our exploration of the region, including the Loire Wine Country and it's famous Chateaus. The weather in June was dicey, but we made use of the wonderful swimming pools and walked the close by beaches on better days. The suites include kitchenettes with ammenities aimed at extended family stays, and there are coin operated launderettes to refresh your clothing supply. It's comfortable, and geared at convenience rather than luxury. Most of the staff speak English and need little prompting to show friendly interest. La Baule is a rare find... few Americans know about it, yet the French and German's flock to the region during vacation in July & August (make reservations). Sailing, tennis, equestrian events abound. Wonderful seafood, decent local shopping, night life, and a casino round out the lifestyle. The beach is known as " the most romantic in all Europe", with good reason. The adjacent pine-forested park, and the long, soft sandy beaches make for long, romantic walks. A three hour train ride from CDG Airport takes you to heaven. Try it in late Spring or after the August tourist packs recede.

Excellent family holiday - great if you want somewhere that isn't too English. The best thing about this place is its enclosed and safe grounds - lots of space for children to wander around. Pool is OK (bit small at peak times). Rooms are clean although a little spartan and it's only a 5 min walk to the promenade. Staff are very helpful and multi-lingual.

La Baule itself is wonderful if you, like us, are lucky with the weather. Fantastic beaches (esp at the other end of the bay in the old town where the sand is sooooo fine), a nice old-style resort and good shopping. The seaside with a bit of class.
