“Back for a second look this year”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

This past summer we took two of our grandchildren on a tour of Europe and one of our stops was the city of Rouen along the Seine River.
There is a lot of history here as it is the site of the burning of Joan of Arc at the stake. It is also the site of the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen. Unfortunately this past June we could not get into the it as there was some restoration work being done so all we really saw was the massive structure from the outside. This time however we did get a chance to go inside to view the massive pillars and the artwork that is inside of the cathedral.
Don't also miss the small ancient town square with it's historic clocktower.

“Very impressive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Free entry, stained glass windows were very interesting (look out for the one that tells one of the Saint stories).
It wasn't busy at all so we had a good chance to look around. There were guided tours available but we decided to look around on our own.
Note: There were beggars at the door with collection jars - don't feel you have to give them any money!

“Very Impressive”

The Cathedral Notre-Dame is a testimony to man. The building was built over several hundred years, and it s façade reflects the changing tastes over this period, several architectural themes are present. It is also the resting place of King Richard the Lionhearted.

It is a beautiful Cathedral, built at the same time as Paris’ Notre Dame, but much less crowded. It is also a testimony to the French, as the south side of the Cathedral was destroyed by allied bombing during WW2, but has been rebuilt to the point it is impossible to imagine that the damage was ever done.

What a sight, from the spire and towers outside to the size and scale on the inside. Great attraction to visit when in Rouen. Also the cathedral is free to enter. Overall it is well worth a visit. Great.

I have always liked cathedrals. This one was made famous by Monet's painting of the facade, but in real life it is more home-like. If you want to see stained glass windows, you may be disappointed. As elsewhere, the windows have suffered from various wars. However, the atmosphere in the cathedral is very good, and I am constantly in aw of how much dedication it took to build it. Well worth a visit.
