We stayed here Mon and Tues Aug 27 & 28. Nice room overlooking the garden with private terrace. Very quiet and breakfast was very good. We would return here any time. Helpful and friendly hosts made the stay a good start to our French trip.

Room Tip: Need tone careful arriving since streets are one way

We stayed in the Garden Cottage. This is an extension rather than a cottage. The house is set in lovely gardens in a very quiet neighbourhood - but 5 mins walk from essential shops, and just 20-25 mins walk from the centre. There's a very convenient metro stop a few mins away. You can park your car outside. So, combines convenience and tranquility. The Garden Cottage was clean and charming. We struggled to understand the layout before arriving. The kitchenette, shower and toilet are on the ground floor. The main bedroom is on the 1st floor. There is also a small room with a bed and a desk in it on the 1st floor, and the stairs/ladder up to the loft bedroom and inside this small room. The loft room has two beds - not full-size adult and a low ceiling. In theory, there are 5 beds, but the bed in the small room is not recommended. Also, the kitchen is small and with just one toilet and shower, this is probably not suitable for more than three people. The steep stairs make it unsuitable for young children. So, ideal for a couple or a family with 1 teenager. Kitchen is well equipped. There's a space outside, fairly private, to spread out in good weather - table and chairs. We had breakfasts in the main house - which is beautiful inside. Charming and very friendly couple running the place. Because you can book by the day (rather than the week), and yet allowed self-catering, we were able to do things exactly as we wanted. Definitely recommended.

We stayed here a year ago. At that time, we were selfish consumers of Tripadvisor ratings who didn't report our own experiences. This year we've started reviewing, and as we have such wonderful memories of our stay at Villa La Gloriette, we want to share it with others.

This is one of the most beautiful and comfortable B&B's we've ever stayed in. It's a mini-mansion set in a verdant residential neighborhood, about a ten minute walk into the touristic center of Rouen. The gardens are glorious, but the highlight is the interior -- rooms decorated in impressionist style that are enchanting. They've been the subject of multiple spreads in interior design magazines. The bed was very comfortable, and the breakfasts were superb. Claire and Christophe were extremely friendly and helpful in guiding our travels throughout Rouen. Parking in the street is easy and, of course, free.

The lone downside is finding it. We didn't have a GPS last year (we learned our lesson and wouldn't go without one now), and the location is on a street that's extremely difficult to find as there are no through streets from center city that continue there. The driving route is quite circuitous, though there are staircases that make walking into center city quite direct.

As long time users, first time reviewers, it is a pleasure to recommend such a wonderful place to fellow travelers. Villa la Gloriette has charm, warmth and character. With gracious hosts such as Claire and Christophe, our stay reflected a uniquely "French" experience rather than generic hotel accommodation. We were fortunate to stay in the Bovary Room which was both spacious and luxurious. The bed was comfortable and the terrace ideal for a cup of tea or coffee overlooking the garden. We had both privacy and the benefit of local knowledge provided by Claire and Christophe, particularly in recommending local, non touristy restaurants. The breakfast supplied was one of the best we have ever been offered, including local breads, jams and macaroons!!! A grande " Merci beaucoup" to C and C for providing such a highlight to an already fabulous trip.

Friends who toured France last year recommended Gloriette so we decided to try it, although usually, we stay at hotels like Novotel and Mercure. This was a great decision since the entire experience was wonderful.

It's a bit hard to find since it's not on a main street, but no problem with our GPS; (google maps would do it too, I assume.) The house is hidden behind the usual wall but when you enter you find a beautiful old home in a lovely garden, fully renovated, operated by a very friendly couple. They don't speak English fully but I speak some French so it all worked out well.

My wife was amazed at the large size of the room and the beautiful furnishings AND the massive bathroom with a full tub and a gorgeous, separate shower and beautiful bath robes. This is such a classy place to stay!

Granted, Caen, France is closer to the Normandy beaches, but we stayed in Rouen anyway because we wanted to go to Gloriette. It was a bit over an hour's drive to the World War II sites and that was fine. (I just wish it were closer to Mont St. Michel.)

Not inexpensive however ... a hotel would have cost less. But we felt like royalty staying at this B&B and you don't get that at a Mercure hotel. And breakfast was included in the beautiful dining room overlooking the very nice garden. Parking was on-street but no problem finding a spot when we were there; it's a residential area so I doubt parking would ever be a problem ... it is a very quiet street, not noisy like the main streets and avenues.

We stayed in five hotels and one other B&B in France but we rated the two nights at Gloriette the best experience. (I wrote Reviews on the other places we stayed, as well).

Room Tip: The Bovary room has a terrace and is HUGE. This is the best of the rooms. They also have smaller, le...

This is a beautiful B&B in Rouen with wonderful hosts Claire and Christophe. We enjoyed our stay in the Bovary room with the terrace overlooking the garden and a view of the cathedral in town. It is a very easy, comfortable and safe walk into town. The hosts were very attentive without being intrusive, friendly and helpful, especially with dinner reservations. The breakfast was delicious. We even enjoyed Claire's piano playing!! We will definitely return when we come back to Rouen or Normandy.

We really enjoyed our two night stay in the Monet Suite. The suite includes a nice little sitting room with a sofa/bed and a table with two chairs. Since we were tired from a long travel day, it was nice to linger in the sitting room drinking tea from china tea cups, wearing the comfy terrycloth robes, and looking out at the beautiful walled garden.

I also really liked the two bathrooms. One room has a modern shower, a sink with a large counter, and a heated towel rack. The other has a toilet and a small sink. Both are decorated really nicely.

The house is located on a tiny, silent street, and we heard no noise whatsoever. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept really well. The entire suite is extremely clean and well-kept. The hosts, Claire and Christophe, clearly enjoy sharing their beautiful house and helping people enjoy Rouen. Both speak good English and they welcome English-speaking visitors.

Breakfast was fine, although I was surprised to see canned fruit cocktail. The breads and jams were very nice, and I really appreciated the option of plain yogurt.

We arrived and departed from Rouen by train, and I was pleased to discover that the house is only 1 kilometer from the train station. Since it was raining when we arrived, we took a taxi, but when we left it was very easy to walk to the train station.

One thing that I didn't notice until a few days before we arrived (although it is clearly stated on the website) is that check-in is only between 5 and 7 p.m. It is possible to arrange to drop off your bags at other times if necessary, but it is not the case that someone is always home, so it is important to make arrangements in advance.
