“Excellent overnight stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is perfect for a short stay. It is what you would expect from a mid market chain hotel, clean throughout, comfortable bed and a nice view over the docks.

We didn't have any food in the hotel, but recommend Bagatelle for a meal around a 10 minute walk away.

Location is easy, parking is in a large underground car park Les Gares and is charged at 4.70 euros for 24 hours. This is about a two minute walk away but no cover if it were to rain.

Hotel is ideally situated for the stations in Le Havre and just across the bridge from the hotel is a shopping centre The Docks which has a few clothes shops, and some commercial chain restaurants as well as a cinema.

I paid an advance rate of 78 pounds and would not pay much more than this. I would stay here again with no concerns next time I am passing through.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

This was the 17th visit to Europe for my wife and my 5th so we have stayed at many hotels rated from 3 to 5 Stars. We found the staff at this Novotel to be extremely helpful and friendly, although the room itself was miniscule (even by European standards) and inconvenient – we did not have enough space to open all 3 of our suitcase at the same time. Parking in the adjacent Gare Parking lot was adequate and safe. Novotel beds were the most uncomfortable that we encountered during our 21-day trip, and we were told that the chair-bed was, by their definition, a “single bed” for our 19 year old grandson . We found breakfast to be a typical European breakfast, but a bit over priced for the market. We did not find any good restaurants in the area, and ended up taking a scary walk to a nearby McDonald’s one night for a light dinner.
CONS: Small rooms, hard beds, misleading descriptions of sleeping arrangements, pricy breakfast, seedy location.

Room Tip: Look for a better location if you are traveling with children.

Like the title says, it does the job. It's a plaza across from the train station, so ideal for rail travellers. The room is clean but quite spartan in looks (which is fine by me!). Main thing is, the bed is firm but comfortable (and as a severe back sufferer, I am a bit "princess and the pea" type of bed-tester!). Big windows, letting in loads of light, spacious bathroom, can't say more or less than that, really! If you want a cosy, seductive, romantic getaway, then this is NOT the place. but if you want a good night sleep before moving on to wherever you're going, then it's just right.

Now for the negatives: Well, it's in Le Havre, which has to be one of the most charmless, soulless places I can imagine. Not the hotel's fault, of course!

The prices are horrendous. There are no decent eateries within walking distance, and the captive weary traveller who doesn't want to have to go into the town centre is kind of held to ransom there. We took one look at their menu and, looked at one another and in unison said: "No way".

That said, the staff are lovely and helpful, smiley, chatty, so all in all, if I ever had to come to Le Havre again (which hopefully won't happen!), I would have no qualms in lodging there again.

About places to eat: As you go out of the Novotel, if you look to your right across the small marina, there are renovated dock building which now house a small commercial centre, called, appropriately enough, "The Docks". If you look for the "Gaumont" sign at the further end of the building, you will find a small choice of eateries: pizza, tex-mex, grill, japanese (currently closed) and bakeries/sandwich places type of thing, some of which serve all day long, some close between lunch and dinner. Otherwise, the main strip across the station is all kebabs types of food shops, none of which look terribly appetising or salubrious!

Room Tip: The hotel is shaped in a giant triangle, so if you ask for a room on the basin side, you will get th...

We stayed at the Novotel, Le Harve for 2 nights whilst traveling (on different occasions), found room quiet and comfortable. Breakfast excellent. Service was also excellent. Parking was a little walk away.

We enjoyed our stay.

The title may seem a little harsh as the front desk was very good and the room as good as any Novotel I have used before but two key things let it down:

1. Car parking is somewhat remote from the hotel, being in an adjacent underground facility. I could not find an out-of-the-weather route from car park to hotel.

2. Restaurant service was terribly slow and ineffective, though the food was of an okay standard. Breakfast was a disappointment.
