“Gem tucked away on a busy street in centre of Honfleur”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

We spent one night with Eric and Frederic in their cosy B and B, staying in the Pompadour room which was very sumptuously decorated in the Louis XV style, but with an ultra modern en-suite with power shower and nice complimentary toileteries. We asked for a dinner recommendation and their suggested restaurant was the best meal we had on our ten day stay in France.
Whilst very compact for two, the bed was very comfortable and even though we were on a busy street, there was no street noise at all. Breakfast was laid out in the red and white themed breakfast room and both Eric and Frederic were on hand to serve us. There is no private parking but we found a space on the street and the only issue was having to carry our cases a little way from down the street.

Reglise & Pain d’Epices

When I was trying to find my way through the maze of “chambres d’hotes” in Honfleur (Normandy), I luckily bumped into Reglise & Pain d’ Epices. To be honest, it was the bright colours and quirky rooms on the pictures that drew my attention first and foremost.

The room was reserved through Booking.com and besides the standard confirmation email by Booking.com, I received another email from the owners Eric and Frederic.
That was my first WOW moment for this little quaint B&B, certainly not the last. What a little bit of personal attention can do!

Upon arrival – of course Frederic and Eric knew our estimated time of arrival – the two of them and their dog Reglise were happily welcoming us into their B&B. It’s a build up: driving through the picturesque Honfleur with its small streets and arriving at the bright blue gate for Reglise and Pain d’ Epices just gives you that instant smile on your face.

You step into a little courtyard with bright blue tables and chairs, red flowers and a little blue door leading you to the stairs that’s taking you up to your room. At the moment, there are three rooms but Eric and Frederic told us they were busy getting two extra rooms ready on the second floor.

We stayed at La Gustavienne, inspired by the style of the old chateaux and Louis XIV of France. The room blended in perfectly with the romantic atmosphere of Honfleur, with its soft purple tones and antique furniture. When we were introduced to our Gustavienne hideaway, Eric ran back downstairs to fetch us some typical Normandy candy: locally made salted caramel to rest on our pillow….

There are many small signs the owners do really like Christmas. And if you haven’t noticed them by the time breakfast comes, you will notice it once you step into the kitchen and dining room. Where everything is red and white. With candles. And a slight cinnamon scent. The assortment of bread is plentiful and there is fruit, cheese, yoghurt…. The French breakfast can sometimes be a bit harsh, with coffee and a croissant as the only items on the menu. Luckily here Eric & Frederic understand their guests are coming from all corners of the planet (or at least Europe) and that a day exploring the invasion beaches, strolling in Honfleur or visiting the cliffs at Etretat requires a proper breakfast, just to keep you going!

When we had to say goodbye after two nights it was like saying goodbye to good friends. The genuine hospitality ensures you will have an amazing time in Honfleur, we will definitely come back!

Room Tip: All three of the rooms are amazing. We stayed at La Gustavienne which was nice and light and situate...

Honfleur is such a wonderful and picturesque city. But if you need another reason to go to this city, a stay at Reglisse et Pain d'Epices is just that reason. My husband and I and our two daughters spent 2 nights there early June. We had two beautiful rooms that made my daughters feel like princesses, and my husband and I like romantics. The building is very old, but Eric and Fredric have incorporated all the modern conveniences into this charming B&B so your comfort is never compromised. Breakfast in the morning is an extra treat, not necessarily by what is served, but how it is served. This is a place to stay if you really want to feel special. Thanks Eric for making us feel welcome and for helping to make our stay in Honfleur perfect.

We've just returned from an excellent 3 nights at Reglisse et Pain d'Epices. The property is pretty and charming; the rooms very comfortable. The owners are so welcoming, with complimentary foodstuffs and offers to recommend restaurants and outings. They take an interest in everyone and in ensuring that they have a great holiday. We would love to return one day.

My husband and I wanted a different experience while vacationing in Paris. We planned to go to Honfleur for two days and one night. We just came back from our charming stay at Reglisse et Pain d'Epices.

We are staying in the Latin Quarter in Paris and took the metro to St. Lazare. We then took a train to Trouville-Deauville Station in Deauville. This was a short 2 hr train ride from the city. We then took a bus; (Bus Verts du Calvados), Line 20. The bus station is located right beside the train station. A short 20 min bus ride took us to Honfleur.

Reglisse et Pain d'Epices is a short 10 minute walk from the bus station in Honfleur. Reglisse et Pain d'Epices is located perfectly in the middle of town. We were greeted very warmly by Eric, and his handsome labrador. We stayed in the room "Bucolic" and it was just perfectly cozy and warm. Eric and Frederic have paid every attention to detail. They even left us caramel's; that are a local delicacy in Honfleur.

After a week in Paris (which we loved), this place felt like our much needed quiet sanctuary. All we could hear were the birds chirping. Eric gave us useful information for places to visit and restaurants to see. A welcomed surprise was that the B&B is not attached to the main living quarters. The rooms have a separate entrance, which is a nice added feature.

The next day we enjoyed a feast of a breakfast (traditional French breakfast: pastries, cheese, bread, yogurt, fruit, orange juice, coffee), then walked to the beach and toured around the town. We were shocked that this piece-of-heaven has only been open for about a year. Their rates were very reasonable--much less expensive than other places we explored, and by far the nicest we've seen (and we're somewhat particular!).

We will definitely book again!

We stayed two nights during the prawn festival and can definitely recommend this place.
We had the Gustavienne room, small but lovely, comfortable and quiet. A complimentary bottle of cider and a box of biscuits were some of the details we particularly appreciated.

The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. They will do everything to make the stay enjoyable, with good advice on things to do and places to go to. The breakfast table just shows you how serious they take their job, and how making sure they provide the best for their guests is important to them.

All in all a wonderful experience.

It doesn't get better than Réglisse and Pain d'Epices! We received a warm welcome on arrival from Eric and Frédéric, the charming owners, and their beautiful (and well-mannered) labrador, Réglisse. Right from the start they were very helpful and provided us with maps and all the info we needed to explore Honfleur. We stayed in the "Gustavienne", a lovely room with a very comfortable bed and beautiful old wooden beams, typical of old Normandy houses. As this is a new B&B (they opened last summer), everything is brand new and spotless. They kindly gave us a tour of the other rooms, each decorated with a different theme, and all of them very cosy and private. A delicious and generous continental breakfast was served in the main house only a few steps across the cobblestone courtyard. The rooms are very reasonably priced for the area, and as far as value for money goes, cannot be beaten. The B&B is situated on one of the main streets of the town, but as it is down a little path and in a courtyard, nights are perfectly quiet.

I would highly recommend this charming B&B to friends and family!
