“Good hotel, well managed, nice pool, safe parking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2010

As two couples, we used this hotel as a base for touring the area over several days. Please note that the hotel does not have a restuarant for evening meals, but there are a lot of excellent restaurants in the town -so either enjoy a 15/20 minute walk, 2 min car drive or a 10 Euro taxi (cheap between 4) and keep the taxi number for the journey back.

Breakfast was usual continental and enjoyable.

Important to us was good off road parking and the hotel has this at no charge.

Rooms were clean and cleaned every day.

The pool was very good.

The staff were hardworking and efficient - notably so on reception.

Would we go back? - Yes

Hotel Antares & Spa

NOT GOOD!!

This looks like a lovely place on their website so although a little wary of the odd warning review I decided to book it for our overnight stays in Honfleur. My main reason was that I needed a family room and a hotel with secure parking close to the centre and this place seemed to offer it all.

I really wish I hadn’t.

On our outward journey the family room was a cold lifeless room, cheap furnishings and very basic bathroom suite. The bathroom had mould all over the corner ceiling and tiles and the floor tiles were the sort that if your Littleun stepped on whilst wet would end up slipping over. I would say it was like a travel lodge only that wouldn’t be fair to Travel lodges!

On our return leg we had looked for elsewhere but everything was by now booked up so we were stuck with it. When we arrived the receptionist had remembered us and the story of our child who petrified of showers but loved baths so it was a little strange to find that she had given us a room which only had a shower! We asked to change and were initially told that there were no more available family rooms before I stressed that it wasn’t acceptable. She then managed to find us a triple room (not the same thing apparently) but in the outside block of rooms. This room was a lot better than the family room, almost like they have two different qualities for “normal” visitors and for families, but still not worth 125euros a night.

Breakfast was 11euros per person, regardless of age, and was a buffet style. They had made an effort here with a lot of different types of food but no cooked food at all. If you wanted boiled eggs you had to do it yourself with a bain-marie. Toast was cold and crunchy so fell apart when spreading anything on it, bit like melba toasts.

The reception staff were friendly but not terribly efficient. On our first stay we asked for them to call us a taxi into town (their estimate for walking time being very very wrong) and though they did this they didn’t bother to tell us that we wouldn’t be able to get a taxi returning from town unless we pre-booked one with them or had the ability to phone for one ourselves. Or mention that it was a bank holiday in France that week end and that there wouldn’t be any working after 9pm.

The Spa and swimming pool were ok, small and very busy. When we went on our return leg the pool had a couple of lovers literally necking and getting very very heated and the staff didn’t ask them to stop so for obvious reasons we couldn’t take our Littleun in!

All in, not a great place, over priced, not as near to the centre as stated and not very helpful.

I was expecting to find a confortable room. what I found was a small room, without even a mirror in it. We asked for a triple room. We were given a double room with a rollaway bed that could hardly stay in the room. I had practically to jump over that bed to go to mine... We were tired after the trip, so we decided to to straight to sleep without complaining.
The bathroom was clean, but not even ONE hook to hang your clothes or towels. Towels were placed on one side of the tube since is was the ONLY PLACE to put them. I would have rather choose some of the hotels in the same area that are more convinient like B&B or more confortable like Kyriad..
Hotel in not in the city center . Although it is only 5 minutes by car it does not offer the athmosphere you expect. Even if it has a swimming pool, I think most of visitors go to Honfleur to enjoy the city without even visiting their pool. Would not recommend and would not go back.

Hotel Antares is a comfortable small hotel just on the outskirts of Honfleur. There's a nice food market across the street, a McDonald's a block away and free parking. Room was quiet, clean and comfortable but no free wi-fi. Staff was friendly and price was reasonable. Close to the bridge to Le Havre. No shower, just a finicky hose in the tub.

I took a party of 40 people (most of whom are heart patients or their carers) As a group we travel regularly and wanted to return to Honfleur and monets Gardens at giverny in particular. We found the hotel very convenient, clean, modern and totally unlike some of the derogatory comments featured on the internet. The service was very good indeed, nothing was too much trouble.we give it a very goodreview. written on behalf of HERTBEATS the St Albans and District heart Support group

Room tired and needed redecoration. Heater in bathroom on timer so loud clicking noise was disturbing. Nasty stain on bed cover, pillows uncomfortable, dirty carpets and fingermarks on doors. Breakfast poor value for money at 11 euros. On posiive side, female receptionist friendly and helpful. Would definitely NOT stay there again.

The hotel is ok, the facilities mentioned such as Sauna, Hammam and pool are there indeed but a bit dirty.

Sauna and Hammam are not free, 8 Euros/ half an hour. This is a bit expensive given the quality of the facilities.

The pool isn't really super-clean but given the price of the room I wouldn't expect more.

Didn't try the 10Euro/person breakfeast as I prefered to eat downtown in the harbor area.

The main downside is the distance to the city centre. The hotel is located in a industrial zone between McDonalds and similar activities, In order to go downtown a car is recommended, which is a bit of a drag if you'd like to profit from the local specialities in terms of wine and cider.
